Chinese purchase of Su-35

I'm not sure if you can compare it that way, but my thoughts are, China is mostly self-sufficient already so even if China doesn't have one, they won't dread for it, because they know they will soon have one or something similar of their own. This is the story of materialism: You buy things that you can't have, or that the costs to getting them in other methods are too great.

Agreed! After a series of successful domestic development programs, such as JH-7A, J-10 and J-20, China now should have the confidence to develop anything that any other nation can come up with. even if the foreign plane is slightly better, China should have the confidence that they will better the foreign plane on their own.

If they decided to stay out of PAK FA and to develop their own J-20, why would they go backward and buy some Su-35? Makes no sense at all...

Only Russians would believe those typical Made-in-Russia news.
Negotiations on the sale of Russian advanced Su-35 Flanker-E fighters to China have been put on hold over Beijing’s refusal to buy a large consignment, Russian state-controlled arms exporter Rosoboronexport said on Tuesday.

“We have been promoting the Su-35 fighter on the Chinese market,” Rosoboronexport deputy chief Viktor Komardin said.

“However, China only wants to buy a limited number [of aircraft] whereas we want [to sell] a large consignment to make [the deal] economically viable.”

He offered no indication of the numbers involved

The negotiations have been ongoing for more than one and a half years.

China’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) has denied emphatically that such a deal is in the works, stating the press coverage is “not in accord with the facts” and the Su-35 “does not fit China’s national situation” (Caixun, March 12; Global Times, March 12).

Slightly off-topic but su-35 related. Has India shown interest in purchase the Su35 or they mull the acquisition of more MKis? If the latter is the case, it would be meaningful.
