From the quality of the video and the fact that there was video, I'd say chances are it was taken with a smartphone instead of a dedicated specialist camera with a massive zoom lense.

That would make it pretty hard to spot that someone was filming them from the Z10.

Also, if you are concerned that someone might photograph/video your attack helo, don't go flying it over a densely populated urban area, and if you do, don't be surprised that people will whip their cameras and phones out to take shots.

In addition, it seems a very counter productive move to be hovering and literally flying circles around someone if you were upset that they were taking photos. if you don't want them taking photos, you fly away as soon and as fast as you can.

Seems to me more likely that the pilot was showing off if anything.

Maybe he saw a pretty girl waving at him from the playground and thought what the hell. From the surroundings and the size of open area, I would also say that it was a university campus instead of some school playground.

Also, judging from the reaction, or rather lack of one, from the kids playing basketball throughout, it would appear that this display was nothing too special for them.

Or they just really love basketball.

what do you guys think of the handling qualities of the WZ-10 (if anything can be inferred from the video)

it seems to me the pilot is pretty confident maneuvering around civilian area and civilians (kids)

Is it just me or can we see the projected display in the gunner's HMD in the first pic? Two small, seemingly green circles over his eyes.

It could be the sun's glare but that seems to be reflecting off a single point on the middle of the HMD rather than two points right over where the eyes should be.

Here you guys can see what Bltizo was asking. Untitled.jpg

As for why the chopper is there I'm pretty sure the pilot is just trying to impress his girlfriend or buddy attending the China Pharmaceutic University. People from the Jiangning university town or Southern Nanjing have already gotten used to seeing Z10 flying around, maybe next time I'm there I'll try to capture some shots with my dslr.

Thanks for posting the pic.

I asked, because the gunner's helmet seems a step up from the IHADSS "monocle" type HMD on the apache and older HMS for "legacy" fighters, and is more like the F-35's HMDS (I remember the pic with the two green holograms displayed over the pilot's eyes), or even the thales top owl which the WZ-10 helmet resembles in shape (superficial, inb4 copy)

I wonder if this is the first true modern HMD that we've seen from the chinese defense industries. It should leak through to fighter HMDs as well. The technology's obviously there, it's a matter of making it light, cheap and available/attachable enough.

Yeah I have never seen on that before, good one.

Those are from 4th Army Aviation regiment right? first operational WZ-10 unit?

If it is true then this HMDS is finaly in operation! great job.
