Not forgetting that, after 2 expensive wars which have not seen their end yet, they're now setting their sight on a trade war with their very biggest banker.

American institutions and people hold over 70% of the debt. China while the biggest individual holder of American debt, has only a meagre 8% of it by comparison.

Cain says his economic advisors say it will and that it, of itself is revenue neutral...but that its impact will spur growth and lead to higher revenue as a result of more business.

I tend to agree with him.

Others, not surprisingly especially some GOP candidate and the Obama administration who would run against Cain indicate that their economic advisors disagree.

That's what elections are for.

Politicians will say anything, especially during election campaigns.

At 7 am EST, the NYPD will move in to clear Zuccotti Park of Occupy Wall Street protesters. The protesters have been camping in a park that is a "public-private partnership" that is owned by a private company (Brookfield Properties; New York Mayor Bloomberg's girlfriend Diana Taylor sits on their board and also works for Citigroup IIRC) but legally open to the public. Brookfield Properties has asked that the park be cleaned, and the NYPD has declared their intention to clear the park to allow cleaning to proceed. They have also declared that no one will be allowed to sleep in the park or basically do anything other than stand with a sign during the day after the park has been cleared and cleaned. The protesters see this as cover for an attempt to disperse the protest. They have had a "Sanitation Committee" and declared a mass cleanup in response to the order to disperse, which has been going on for hours now. Also, there has been heavy rain. Organizers have been putting out calls for supporters to come to the park and swell their numbers for non-violent resistance of the order to clear the park. Protesters attempted to present an online petition against the order with several hundred thousand signatures to Mayor Bloomberg as he dined at Cipriani restaurant, but he did not meet them. The New York City Council has sent a letter to the mayor asking him to cancel the order. We shall see what happens.

More Americans than Chinese can’t put food on the table

The number of Americans who lack access to basic necessities like food and health care is now higher than it was at the peak of the Great Recession, a survey released Thursday found. And in a finding that could worsen fears of U.S. decline, the share of Americans struggling to put food on the table is now three times as large as the share of the Chinese population in the same position.

The United States' Basic Index Score, a Gallup measure of access to necessities, fell to 81.4 in September--even lower than the 81.5 mark it reached in February and March, 2009. The recession officially ended in June of that year, but the halting recovery hasn't given a sustained boost to the number of Americans able to provide for themselves. The government reported last month that a record number of Americans is living in poverty.

Between September 2008 and last month, the share of Americans with access to a personal doctor plummeted from 82.5 percent to 78.3 percent. The share with health insurance fell from 85.9 percent to 82.3 percent. And the share saying they had enough money to buy food for themselves and their family dropped from 81.1 percent to 80.1 percent. Gallup's surveys are based on phone and in-person interviews.
Meanwhile, Gallup found that just 6 percent of Chinese said there were times in the past 12 months when they lacked enough money for food for themselves or their family, compared to 19 percent of Americans. Just three years ago, those results were almost reversed: 16 percent of Chinese couldn't put food on the table at times, compared to 9 percent of Americans.

I applaud him for making taxation much simpler. That's the attraction of a flat tax...simplicity. The problem is, he would remove the estate tax, which I am flatly opposed to. I favor a very very high estate tax because I believe it is morally wrong for someone who is rich and successful to give their children a free ride. Everyone should have to fight their way up and achieve success. Republicans seem to think that only certain bloodlines should be successful, this is un-american if you ask me.

His plan would also eliminate capital gains taxes. Since many of america's wealthiest people make most of their income from capital gains, this would give them a free ride. Needless to say, I oppose eliminating the tax entirely.

Nonetheless, like I said, the simplicity of a flat tax is nice. There are benefits to not having tax brackets. I could stomach his plan if it included a dramatic increase in the estate tax.

if you're personally oppose than don't give your kin a single penny BUT to impose a law saying others can't will or give their kids some of their wealth is wrong IMHO.
I do somewhat agree on capital gains tax though BUT there needs to be some revision to it. If someone's income is derived solely from their capital investments than they should be tax just like ordinary income tax no different than everyone else based on the 'tax bracket' their investments bring in.

............

Why is it a surprise ? When you see their respective response to the economic crisis where one focused on helping the people while the other on helping the corporate fat cats, this is the natural outcome.

I agreed, that's the problem no one talks about capital gains tax at all whether it's the politicians or star economists. As a result the topic gets back slide into nowhere.

Human beings all over the world become more and more selfish...

Good Samaritan bled to death on New York street as 25 pedestrians ignored him for more than an HOUR
By Mail Foreign Service
Last updated at 11:51 AM on 27th April 2010

Blood oozing from his body, this is the homeless man who more than 20 people ignored for nearly an hour as he lay on a New York street after saving a woman from being mugged.

Some turn their heads to look, others stop to gawk. One even lifts his body, exposing what appears to be blood on the pavement underneath him, before walking away.
It wasn't until after he had been lying there for nearly an hour that emergency workers arrived, and by then he was dead.
His death has prompted New Yorkers to question whether their city has become more heartless.
'Is anybody human anymore?' asked Raechelle Groce, visiting her grandmother who lives in flat near where Mr Tale-Yax died. 'What's wrong with humanity?'
'I just think that's horrible, whether you're homeless or not. He's a human being; he needs help.'

CCTV footage, before the Guatemalan intervenes, shows a woman walking along the pavement in the Queens district of the city, when a man approaches her from behind.
As she is attacked by the man, Mr Tale-Yax goes to her aid.
Cameras then capture the attacker fleeing, followed seconds later by the victim who stumbles on the pavement and falls.
He lies fatally injured, face down, after being stabbed several times in the chest with a knife.
Two men come out of a nearby building and stand around Mr Tale-Yax, with one of them taking a picture of the victim on his mobile phone.
One passerby does stop and shake him, but then leaves without calling for assistance.
It is not until 7.23am - more than an hour after he collapsed - that emergency services are called to the scene.
'I think it's horrific,' said Marla Cohan, who teaches at a school across the street from where he died. 'I think people are just afraid to step in; they don't want to get involved; who knows what their reasons are?'
The area where the incident happened is a working-class neighbourhood of apartment buildings and fast food restaurants.
The New York Post called Mr Tale-Yax a good Samaritan and a 'slain hero' and drew comparisons with the April 18 incident to the notorious 1964 murder in Queens when Kitty Genovese was stabbed in the street as she walked to her apartment.
More than ten people heard her repeated screams but failed to come to her aid.

Re: Chinese Daily Photos, Videos & News!!

Could'nt think of a appropriate place to put this, but think of the implications once the scientists/technicians get all the nuts and bol;ts sorted and improve its performance, when used in police work etc

New radar sees through walls, takes video

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Massachusetts Institute of Technology scientists say new radar technology sees through solid walls and returns real-time images of what's going on behind them.

It's been difficult to build radar that can penetrate walls well enough to show what's happening behind, but researchers at MIT's Lincoln Lab say their system can see through walls from some distance away, giving an instantaneous picture of the activity on the other side.
