how much caliber is this thing? 7.62? are this rifle available too for army?

That would be the FY-JS rifle. They used the rifle to win the 2011 Sniper World Cup.

I just hope they won't try to equip every platoon marksman with it. Should be a cool thing for special forces, though.

problem with sniping rifle is that 1500 meter or beyond.accuracy drop due to cross wind.
this problem particular in long range sniping in afghanistan theater.
US army is developing new gen. of sniping rifle.with new gen. laser range finder, not only provide range but also cross wind.

I doubt it's a good idea to fire at 1200+ m with a convential rifle bullet at all. There are 12.7 mm rifles for such huge distances.

The only round in the 7.62mm class that has the energy to be effective at about a mile is the .300 Winchester Magnum. If you want to go further, you need at least the .338 Lapua or bigger. The only issue is then consistency, which good match-grade ammunition can provide. A good rifle plus match grade ammo in the hands of a good shooter can achieve easily 0.50 MOA or better.

That is what the Type 88 is for. This weapon fill a completely new role that the PLA did not have before. It would be interesting to see how they integrate this into their current force structure.
