rather the attacking unit used clever tactics of drawing the defending J10s away with their main force (which was promptly wiped out) while a lone MKK flew low on a flanking move (quite apt I thought) and 'destroyed' the intended target.

Classic PLA moves, from the ground and now to the air.

Pupu originally leaked that one. He is generally trust worthy and if you can read Chinese I highly recommend his book series "Sun Set over the KNAPPO". It gives some pretty interesting insights on China's acquisition of the Su-27 as well as the development of the J-10 fighter and evolution of PLAAF's doctrine.

Regarding the intercept of the VNAF fighters I think PLAAF's electronic attack capability helped out a great deal. The USN supposedly crippled the communications network of the entire Nanjing military district during the 1996 Taiwan strait crisis with just a single Prowler. On the other hand it is my personal belief that the J-10s would've done well had China not employed electronic attack due to the superiority of the J-10As, when compared with the Su-30 MKKs, in air to air combat. There was an official leak, back in late 2010, concerning the "shoot-down" of 5 out of 6 Su-30s by J-10s during an exercise. The only Su-30 that escaped was piloted by one of the premier Su-30 pilots in PLAAF (surname Yang).
by the way, do you know where I can download his book series sunset over knappo? I think it's something I should read, but never really know where I can get it.

Here is a link that some one sent me a while back. The whole book is pretty long. I think he is still updating it so it is not technically complete.

There are free programs like FotoSketcher that can generate simulated oil, watercolour pen and pencil sketches of real pictures. But I'll believe that this is his own effort and it's a great job.

Here is the original photo:

Salvage definitely did it himself. He has the rough sketch of the painting to prove it.

Ok now for you "what is the difference between the two pictures" fans. How is the real photo different from the oil painting?

There's a pakistan flag, is that what you were pointing to?

ps I know he did it himself because the ratio is a bit different if you compare the two pics and it's not a simple photo stretch.
