Strange ... and what's that thing behind ???

Is is really a mock-up ? ...as such an enginering model or simply a model without much reliability - like the IRST-dome and the J-10A-radome ... and then that "thing" behind is a simple model too ??

Deino

The J-10A radome is probably a J-10B style radome, just that the angle of the photo and the colour of the radome is misleading.
Apart from that I think the model looks very accurate to the J-10B.

The thing behind is obviously supposed to be of the Y-7 awacs... whether these two modesl are amateur imaginings or actual mock ups is the question though.

If it was to fool the satellites they have blow up models for that purpose. I wonder why it is made quite meticulous.

I think it may be mock ups for logistics training - remember there were mockup of J-11 like jet on the carrier building at wuhan. And given there is an early warning aircraft for carrier operation behind it, and suppose that aircraft is also a mockup and used for training. Does this suggest J-10 variant may find use on carrier? (but also don't look like it, the model has a refuelling probe. but then so does rafael)

Keep in mind that just because these two models are in the same picture doesn't mean they have the same destination. there's not a lot which implies the J-10 will be used on carriers... these are probably just photos of them right off the proverbial manufacturing line or such.

This is the first part of the video "Military Technology" of CCTV-7 released on 5 Mar 2011. It talks about new weapons being put into operation during the 11th Five-Year Plan. J10, J10B, J11 and KJ-2000 are mentioned.

It claim J-10 has PGM capabilities and superior air to air ability.

While J-11B has PGM capabilites. Which is totally different from what Huitong say.. I am quite disappointed by what Huitong website reported claiming J-11B has no air to ground attack abilities.

From nowdays onward. I will downgrade Huitong website credibilities..

Take note, this documentary is official from PLA.. It sure has it credibilities.

Revisiting an issue talked about late last year, I'm more and more convinced that CAC has an indigenous AL-31F. The numbers of imported AL-31F and the numbers of J-10 simply don't match.

It is obvious to me by now that CAC does not like WS-10 and does not want to use anything made by Shenyang Liming because it is too closely associated with SAC. Instead, CAC has its own affiliates who make AL-31F. They probably want to keep this on the down-low to avoid the Russians making a fuss about this.

So my prediction is that there will be no more AL-31F orders. Instead, we'll mysteriously see more and more CAC aircraft flying with "AL-31F." The J-10B will also fly with "AL-31F." Then CAC will transition to next-generation WS-15 on the J-20, and the indigenous AL-31F will be history. The WS-10 may only be found on SAC aircraft like J-11B and J-11BS.

Nice -- a really informative, pretty unbiased piece. I never knew a lot of the finer details in the J-10s development timeline and the influence of the J-9 was greater than I'd thought.
Did Bai Wei (heh, who is Bai Wei? :O ) write the whole article or did you help?

Thanks for Your honor, but he really doe not need any help from me; in reality it's the other way around.
We are only working together (he's helping me) since some time and I admire his generosity very much.

Actually he's the chief editor of AVIC's own magazine "Aviation World Montly".
