Another quick point, this one might be out of topic, but it is still somewhat related to my topic. I still think the Chinese fighter pilots' uniforms and helmets are really ugly. When you look at the NATO uniforms, they are really well designed and look futuristic, whereas the Chinese ones are like they're from WWII. The type 07 ceremonial uniforms do look nice now, but the regular day to day uniforms still look like crap. Even WWII German uniforms look better than PLA's current ones. Can't the PLA heads just invest a few extra dollars to make their boys look better? I mean, it is sad to see the second biggest military in the world, having many futuristic weapons like the J-20, Chinese Aegis, and Type 99A2 look like they're out of the Transformer movies, but the soldiers dress like they're out of the 50's Red Army. It's really weird.

Regarding the military might, talking about "biggest", PLA is THE biggest of world; talking about "strongest", PLA is somewhere 3rd of the line. Overlooking Russia, always makes you ends up like Napoleon and Hitler.

There is a thread among Amry threads, that talk about Chinese sodier's body armor. I have some clarification posts there, you can take a look.

Regarding the "good looking" aspect, I can offer you two choice:

1. Have a fantastic multi-purpose, multi-function, good looking uniform, and drive J-7.
2. Be the J-20 pilot and dress that ugly uniform.

That's where funds gose, pal. (THIS, or THAT, not BOTH). The body armor thread can give you a more sensible scale of such issue.

J-20 with a loadout of massive amounts of missiles...

I'm actually wondering something like this is possible, because the J-20 is just that much longer than the F-22 and PAK FA. And I keep getting conflicting views on its length. In some pictures it looks the same size as the F-22 and in others it's a good third longer. I mean really, wtf?

Certainly not outside the relm of possibility and quite similar to the extra long weapons bay that I suggested it might have. I think a single, long weapons bay would be preferable to two small ones like the above as it gives you added flexibility for more weapons options other than current gen AAMs.

I would also suggest that the weapons bays could be a lot deeper in places to allow for bigger weapons and there is also definitely also room for two side weapons bays long enough to hold bvraams. In fact, there are pictures showing panels where you would expect such side bays to be.

The J20 certainly has the potential for an awesome weapons load, and it would be silly to assume the CAC designers did not take note of the F22s design shortcomings and try to address them in the design of the j20. And limited weapons bay storage is often one of the top criticisms of the F22.

Can anyone work out how long the J20'is assumed to be in the above diagrams based on the PL12 length? That might give us a better idea of how realistic that diagram is.

Where is the diagram first came from?

that guy draft the pics every thing just guess, he only refer the CG pic but without the size of the plane and missles, I think the possibility missile bay 6+4:
1,the belly bay 6 mid range missiles, front 4,rear 2.
2, the two side bay, 4 short-range missile, 2 for each side.
The following is the only one so far can vaguely see the side of J-20 photo.

according to the latest issue of DIIC,J-20 has 6 weapon launcher below the fuselage and one in each side.
it was base on drawing in the early 2002.
BTW, according to the report Chengdu produced two protype,2001 and 2002,any picture of no. 2002 ?

No gun right now. It would have to be above one of the air intakes, similar to F-35.

The weapon bay should be 4 + 2. I think a lot of people will be disappointed. However, I would rather J-20 to carry extra fuel than to carry an extra pair of missiles.
