from Tai King Pao,report that type-99 tank undergoing test in cold climate
while the data are all familiar.the only thing I notice that the gun able to fire 10 rd/minute,compare with previous report of 8 rd./minute.
Ukraine T-55M6 or Typhoon carry bustle automatic loader, able to fire 10 rd./minute.compare to 8 rds. for T-72.tank.this may implied that "new" type-99 carry bustle auto loader.and may be refering to type-99A2

If I'm not mistaken, I think this is the first time we've seen photos of the interior of a T-98/T-99 MBT in operational status. All previous photos we've seen were pictures of various interior components. This one showed someone actually sitting there and operating it.

i believe it's the 3rd armoured division in the district. more and more 99s will be issued to the northen district while the south issued with 96. about the M1, if a T-72 could picked it out during golf war, we sure could make it into a pile of buring iron, just in what cost, today's tank warfare is stupid to compare 2 lone tanks.

this is upgraded 99 tank, 99A or 99A2. I just want to understand PLA future tank deployment, if they like to keep 96A, then PLA will deploy 3 size tanks, small -96,medium 99,large 99A2, if China stop to produce 96A right now, in 2019 China national parade, we only see 99 and 99A2. hower, 96 is only second generation tank, they still service in PLA until 2030 if China stop to produce them.

I think China should field two types of tanks in two opposite extremes. One super low like type 96 and one super high like the new 99. China is surrounded by weak small countries like Vietnam and Kazakhstan, those do not have the gut to contest China's military might. On the other hand, there is Russia and the Korean Peninsula (Uncle Sam), those are the two fearsome enemies in the world, both with state of the art tanks, which China need a decent inventory of equally extreme tanks to combat. But built in large quantities during peace time would be wasteful and unnecessary. So China should just build large amount of 96's, in order to train soldiers and conduct small patrols to tame those small neighbors, and pull out the big guns, like type 99A2 in case of possible conflicts with Americans in the Korean peninsula, and possibly the Russians.

Another thing we have to take into consideration is that, technologies in today's world are always somehow inter-related. Even if a weapon is not super necessary, you should still develop it; because nowadays weapons are all collection of thousands of different technologies. It is no longer something simple and streamlined. You never know if the technology developed in one weapon will be used for another weapon. For example, the engine in M1, the steel used in warships applied to tank armour, and etc.
The Chinese already suffered greatly from this problem, the engine would be a great example. So my idea is that even if Typee 99A2 or K, should be developed to full extent, despite of its needs in the coming years.

One thing is certain, 99A2 is not suitable to fight at Korean Peninsula nor dose M1A2ESP kind of monster. Multi-function IFVs like Striker and Type 04 is more suitable for the job.

I beg to differ.

US Army did a study in tank engagement in Korea and concluded that Tanks are useful most if not all of the time. in mountain warfare tanks are extremely useful for use as infantry support. same type of experience borne out from Chinese experience in Northern Vietnam in '79-mid 80s.

on the other side of the 38th.. those 150 or so surplus T-34/85s hand-me-downs caused a huge headeache for SK and US forces in the initial push to the south.

when push comes shove those light skined AFVs will not have mobility that they thought they had and would not have the staying power infront of any thing bigger than rifle rounds.

that's also why 39th Group Army which is positioned in Liaoning to act as both a reserve to counter a soviet drive into Manchuria AND a Korean War II is a tank heavy full mechanized formation. the "Korean War" scenario unit the 16th Army Group has also a armoured division (as oppose to a tank brigade) and is motorized (as oppose to a foot or mountain as one expect) and is also artillery heavy.

also, 54th Army group in Jinan, a full light mechanized formation equiped wheeled APCs also has an armoured division as an "stiffener". this group equiped and trained to act as an reserve, either to move north or south depends on where the situations flares up.
