China did confirmed that they are working single engine "F-35" type aircraft (J-18?).
it likely that J-20 was power by WS-10G,AL-31F and WS-10A lack the sufficient power.while tyhe russian 117S was still in late developing stage.
likely hood that aircratf being power by up rated Ws10A .

maybe China do have " J-18 " single engine mid size stealth fighter project, but its maiden flight will be after 2015, it may come with WS-15.
China have to make every effort to develop J-20 first.

Agreed. With WS-10/WS-10A/AL-31, the big bird won't go anywhere near super-cruise. But, again, do you have any info regarding the spec of WS-15 and the status of this new engine?

J-20 has reasons for its size. Besides the ability to carry more fuel and munitions, it also has the ability to house different engines as demonstrated by the prototypes. which is likely to happen as China's technology matures.

only thing for sure is that China success to develop thrust-weight ratio of 1:10 domestic engine, some PLA senior officials confirmed this in the interviews.
about WS-15,maya said not ready yet.he said if WS-15 pass the test bed, it still needs install in the plane to be tested, it will take long time to test it, untill the engine is mature, just like SU-27 tested WS-10a.
if the engine is not mature but use for new fighter for flight test, that means murder the pilot.

I'd second that.

Be advised...Absolutely terrible website where insults and name calling are allowed by the mods in many subjects esp those related to China...Western hawkishness at its finest display. The mods there will foul around with you at first then ban you for posting your own opinions. At least I got some decent grasp of the narrow-mindedness of many soldiers in service who post there. :)

10-4 on that. i recognize ur name on that forum, and popeye's. i was nighthawk936 in that site. there were so much ignorance and bigot it'll make u wonder if it's a site for where all the bigots with half-functioning brains gather.

Did anyone here consider the possibility that the J-20 already flew in secret? I mean why be so open about it if you aren't even sure that the plane could take off or not.

Okay guys, I'm not so sure if the J-20 with white-tail is using WS-10/WS-10A anymore. I am starting to suscept the engines might actually be WS-15. My reasoning is as follow. First, the nozzle on the engines does not look like the nozzle of WS-10/WS-10A we have seen in airshows. Secondly, they already have a J-20 with AL-31 seving as interm engines. It doesn't make much sense to have yet another type of interm engine when their ultimate goal is to install WS-15. Installing WS-10/WS10A would mean they have to chunk out yet another prototype, which would cost more time and money. Thirdly, the big shots from the airforce spent a lot of time admiring the J-20 engines. If there is a big breakthrough with the WS-10 series, surely Shenyang Liming would want the spot light by inviting the big shots to the WS-10 factory instead. Lastly, the engineer who recently received the metal does not look like the engineer who headed the WS-10 project.

Any thought?

I also have a guess...that maybe these nozzles will be replaced with TVC later on: it's simply a prototype for further testbeds. And I second that this may be WS-15 or other engines we don't know about, because let's not forget we're talking about a top priority project here, and PRC ain't exactly a public library that you can access to anytime.. all we know about this aircraft is as much as we understand this universe.
