maybe they're not confident enough to do the first test flight in front of all the big shots and top brass in case it fails?

The Two 2001 variants:

This is the one with yellow band near cockpit: (Russian AL-31F)

No, if so then they wouldn't have set out all the tables and everything. Some people say the postponment could just be due to the weather..?

Interesting though, with people saying there could be two 2001 prototypes... Hopefully we'll get pictures soon.
PLAAF are really tugging us around with the flight... I wonder if the delay could be due to all the people spying and photographing it (reverting to their old, secretive ways?)

i'll come back in a few weeks.

i must say, i'm not -at all- impressed with this.

if it takes this long to run a test-flight, it just might be 2025 before this thing flies for real!

thumbs down!!!

Can those people give me a souvenir mug from the ceremony? I just knocked off my favourite mug off the desk!

Anyway, I appreciate the updates, thanks!

If it was the weather, they would have told the big cheese/or other VIP's that it wasnt worth the bother in flying in today.

By the way, who is the person who started the rumour that J-20 will fly today? Is there an official statement or just pure speculation since the Big Shot are coming down? Maybe the agenda was just for the big shot to see the progress of the plane and how advance it was... all the system and stuff. And when final tuning was completed, then the big shot will get to see it fly.

And if that was pure speculation, what is there to be so disappointed about. And whats with the 'thumb down', afterall there is no official statement telling anyone that the plane will fly and it is up to us to want to believe it or not.

Also... we are only just seeing the photographs of the J-10 last month or so, they are just prototype, might not even be a flying samples... and do you know how long it get the F-22 or T-50 to fly? Might be longer or the same. Note that, whatever we didn't see, does not mean it was not there. The Russian and the American might have taken a long period of time to get their 5th generation fighter making maiden flight too.
