Abstract: This is an analysis of the report By SELIG S. HARRISON. This analysis is an effort to understand this report. This report is written from US perspective. The main idea of this report is unproved claim of presence of PLA in Gilgit-Baltistan. This report gives some suggestions to US government. The real objectives of this report may appear in future.
This report is prepared according to US interests. In this report I found some deviations from reality as I felt. This report says that Pakistan has handed over De facto control to PLA. This claim is based on foreign intelligence, journalist and human rights workers of Pakistan. I will comment on first source that is have you found any report with reference to Pakistani human right activist or journalist in print or electronic media? I have not found this type of report in media. It seems that sources of this report are not reliable.
There is a contradiction in report about why PLA s here in Gilgit-Baltistan? In this report reporter made two claims no one is that PLA is here to build railway, road infrastructure to provide unfettered access to china for transportation of oil on other hand he claims that Pakistan has handed over the De facto control of area to PLA. There is at least one major problem in both claims, no one is that there is no need to hand over De facto control to construct Rail or road infrastructure.
Another topic is construction of 22 tunnels. This thing is not understandable that how he got information that 22 tunnels are going to construct? Why not 25 tunnels or 15 tunnels? He also says that these are in secret locations. If it is true then this is favor of Pakistan and china as well as Kashmir. Is it not true that India is constructing dams in Kashmir on Pakistani rivers and electricity will be sent to India? If Pakistan give access to its airports to US forces it is true against Taliban and if he get support of china it is not acceptable.
Reporter claims that media has no access to Gilgit-Baltistan. It is a reality that Hundreds of thousands of tourist go there every especially some time ago before wave of terrorism in neighbor of that area. It is not written on face of people that who is reporter and who is tourist? At the end of report it is clear that this report is written according to US interest where author give recommendation to US government for this so called situation.
Conclusion:
It seems that there are some other objectives of this report because the validity of this report is questionable and have many faults. If this report is true then a question arise is that is it a crime? The expected answer is that NO, this is not a crime. This is the part of foreign policy of two countries. If Pakistan provides transit for Afghan trade then it is correct but about similar is not correct for china? ?????Afghanistan is seeking India Afghan trade via Pakistani lands. Pakistan seeks for trade with central Asia via Afghanistan, India also want same for central Asia, US wants uninterrupted supply of oil from middle east, Russia wants to reach to hot waters of Arabian sea. EU is seeking for a whole unit of Europe so they are working according to this objective, as it is in history that European nations have many conflicts but now they are forgetting them. There are a lot of examples of nations when they protect their interests. Same is applicable for Pakistan and China.

China pledges another $200m in Pakistan flood aid

BEIJING: China is to give another 200 million dollars in emergency flood aid to Pakistan, Premier Wen Jiabao announced during a visit to New York for a UN anti-poverty summit.

The announcement comes a month after Beijing faced sharp criticism of its relief pledges from Washington’s pointman on Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke, who called on Islamabad's close ally to “step up to the plate” and do more to help.

“I wish to take this opportunity to announce that China will, on top of the pledged assistance, provide another 200 million dollars of assistance to Pakistan,” Wen said.

China had previously offered about 47 million dollars in aid to Pakistan following the devastating floods, which UN agencies say affected 21 million people and left 12 million in need of emergency food aid.

Torrential rain began falling in northern Pakistan in July and the floods have since moved slowly south, wiping out villages and farmland, and affecting an area roughly the size of England.

This summer, China itself has been battling its worst floods in more than a decade, which left thousands dead or missing. – AFP

Going off topic a bit here :eek:ff

Don't you guys find it strange, the Pakistani flood is not widely reported in Singapore and i didn't see any drive for donation for the people in Pakistan... unlike the Wenchuan Earthquake. :coffee:

I a lot of people in Singapore donated for Wenchuan because most people in Singapore are ethnically Chinese. I don't know how good the relationship between Singapore and Pakistan is but I do know for a fact that it is not as well publicized here in the States. I had to personally hunt down a Pakistani friend of mine to find a place to donate.

China in focus as Pakistan urged to review port deal

ISLAMABAD, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Pakistan should review a deal with a Singaporean company to run a strategic shipping port, the Navy chief said, amid speculation the contract may go to key ally China.

Pakistan is keen to become a conduit for trade to landlocked Afghanistan and Central Asia and now has three major ports -- Gwadar in Baluchistan province and two at Karachi, 450 km (280 miles) to the east.

Admiral Noman Bashir, also government adviser for maritime development, was quoted by Pakistan media calling for a review of the contract to run Gwadar with Singapore's PSA International Ltd [PSAIN.UL] because the port was not operating to expectations.

"I'm saying this with great concern that the purpose for which the Gwadar port was built is not being achieved," Bashir told reporters in a news briefing shown on television on Friday.

"We have given them a lot of concessions and no commitment was taken from them in return. That's why this agreement should be reviewed."

PSA, which runs ports around the world and is owned by state wealth fund Temasek Holdings [TEM.UL], declined to comment.

Conceived over a decade ago, Pakistan hoped Gwadar, 70 km (45 miles) east of the Iranian border and on the doorstep of Gulf shipping lanes, would handle transshipment traffic for the Gulf.

Bashir's comments came on the heels of a media report last week saying the project may be given to China, which provided 80 percent of its initial $248 million development costs.

China is already involved in engineering, mining, nuclear energy and construction projects in the country, and has invested in Pakistan's transport and mobile communication sectors.

"The expectation was that (PSA) would bring in trade, but it has not done so and turned the whole port -- built with Pakistani and Chinese investments -- into a white elephant," said Rasul Bakhsh Rais, professor of political science at the Lahore University of Management Science.

He said the admiral's statements and earlier media reports were "preparing the ground" for cancelling the deal and awarding operation of the port to China.

"I think it would be a wiser decision to cancel this agreement and tie up with the Chinese, who are interested in trade corridors and in gas and oil pipelines in the region."

If under Chinese control, Gwadar would give Beijing more economic sway in the region and upset Pakistan's traditional enemy, India, which views China's ties with Islamabad with suspicion.

PSA International took over management and operational control of the deep-sea port in February 2007 for 40 years.

Well, I haven't been to Singapore lately, so I wouldn't know.

But it seems that in general, neither of the mentioned disasters were really covered here, especially the floods. You have to go on Chinese TV for the Earthquake and for me AlJazeera or DW-TV for the other.

EU doubles Pakistan flood aid to 150 million euros

BRUSSELS: The European Commission has decided to more than double its Pakistan flood aid to 150 million euros (205 million dollars), the European Union's humanitarian aid chief said Friday.

The EU's executive arm has already provided 70 million euros in aid and will now distribute another 80 million euros to its partner organisations, European humanitarian aid commissioner Kristalina Georgieva told a news conference.

“Our own staff in Pakistan confirms that more financial resources will translate into more lives saved and more people helped,” she said.

“For that reason we have decided in the commission to more than double our humanitarian support to Pakistan.”

Combined with contributions from national governments, the European Union's support for Pakistan now totals 400 million euros, she said.

Torrential rain began falling in northern Pakistan in July and the floods have since moved slowly south, wiping out villages and farmland and affecting an area roughly the size of England.

The United Nations has issued a record two-billion-dollar appeal for funds to cope with the disaster, which UN agencies say affected 21 million people and left 12 million in need of emergency food aid.

The new European aid will be directed primarily to the south of the country, Georgieva said.

“The floods in Pakistan continue to present an enormous challenge,” she said.

A more “comprehensive package” will be presented at the Friends of Democratic Pakistan meeting in Brussels on October 14-15 to be hosted by EU chief diplomat Catherine Ashton and attended by Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, she said.

“The European Union is aware of the massive scale of the rebuilding tasks,” Georgieva said.

“We are preparing a wide-ranging package to assist the Pakistani people in their efforts, including trade arrangements and development funding.” – AFP

Not as big as Afghanistan or Iraq. Before accusing atleast do some checking how how much aid has gone where and in which sectors.

And why should Pakistan show its gratitude ?? America is the reason we are in this sh*t, the world is in this sh*t.

Do you know how much Pakistan has suffered economically due to this War of Terror launched by the US to serve its own purposes ??

Any idea on the human cost Pakistan has to pay ??

Why don't you ask US/NATO, that why do they leave border posts wide open, full valleys / province empty on the Afghan side when we do critical operations on this side of the border, thus the militants from this side crossing freely to the Afghan side and there Afghans giving them full support, protection and the US/NATO forces doing nothing about it ??

Do you have any idea how and how much US aid money to Afghanistan is being channeled to Taliban as protection money ?? Why is Opium production on rise after US invaded Afghanistan ??

Before asking Pakistan, do ask the US and other western countries for their contribution in this mess.

Pakistan has paid a very heavy price, economically as well as militarily & human cost wise, much more then any nation has done, who created this whole mess.

:coffee: nice words !
