PLAN Anti-ship/surface missiles

Not sure what this could be, as I don't have the complete image to judge its size. However, the body appears to have reduced RCS features. Perhaps a stealthy anti-ship/anti-surface cruise missile?

That is exactly the image I got a few days ago labelled as a new stealthy cruise missile, but maybe also as a stealthy KD-20/20A replacement?

Finally China gets Stealthy long range cruise missile similar to US JASSM, LRASM. Yes, its a mature technology now but China didn't have it before. Its good to have cheap stealth cruise missiles in some units that could be sub-sonic but cheaper or longer ranged.

China does have stealth cruise missiles like the AKF-98 family and variants but those are more Storm Shadow/SCALP like stealth cruise missiles. Long range land attack/anti-ship stealth cruise missiles were missing in the Chinese arsenal. China prioritised hypersonic glide and cruise missiles before long range stealth cruise missiles. And of course, it has much less use for LR stealth cruise missiles. China posture is with US military intervention in western Pacific in mind only. So anti-access, area denial is the primary objective and air defense. I'm surprised China has even bothered to develop a LR stealth cruise missile but it's only natural to replace CJ-10 platform with this update.

In the long range, land attack realm so no SCALP, AKF-98 etc:

HGCM >> HGV >/= HCM > LR stealth cruise missile > supersonic cruise missile e.g. P-800 Oniks, YJ-12 etc >/= subsonic terrain hugging cruise missile e.g. CJ-10, Tomahawk etc.

Supersonic cruise missiles typically have much lower range than the others and basically equal to air launched Storm Shadow and AKF-98.

Ranking by direct comparison is very reductive. There's a tool for every task, and a task for every tool. And there is also huge value in fielding many different munitions across many different flight profiles. Just forcing your opponent to anticipate every possible combination is valuable in and of itself.

Just because China doesn’t show a weapon doesn’t mean she doesn’t have it.

Yankee: YJ-15 is a scaled-down version of the YJ-12, designed to be mounted on the J-15's heavy pylon, and it is already on combat duty. Until the next-gen anti-ship missile for the J-35's internal weapons bay is ready, the naval air force will use it for the time being.

YJ-15 is still not the "target missile", but a transitional product.
