Type 95 Assault Rifle II

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

Actually I think the real reason is being an "All American" conservative movie, Red Dawn had to be all shot and filmed in the US i.e. Detriot. Being in the USA they cannot import Chinese weapons except for shotguns (cuz its considered sporting goods). Stargate Universe is primarily filmed in Vancouver, Canada hence they are not subject to US laws.

Even the Chinese shotguns are copies of American classics like the M870 so there's no originality there either, only the QBZ-95 series stands out.

Back to topic, the piccany rail modification kit is a civilian project, though it should drawn no more than overseas airsoft players (there're Type 97 airsoft made and sold in Hong Kong at least) or some local police department that equipped with QBZ-95 and got the budget. Other than that, the military would use barrel-clamp for their add-on kits, and use the standard issued optics.

very nice closeups of the T95s note that the second one's Grenade launcher is of a Tan-ish color Could this mean that the PLA is also worried about black?

Ya, that could be the case instead of the film's producer being still stuck in the 70s mindset. Anyway, my comment was totally out of the blue and not to be taken too seriously. :D

Reading internet comments, I find that there are an amazing number of people who believe that China has a large, but poorly trained and poorly equipped military.

What do you expect from the average netizens? Most are too lazy or stupid to spell correctly let alone do some basic research on world news. It doesn't help that mass media (not that most journalists are any better informed) portray Chinese military in such light any ways. I'm sure every one here is familiar with the so-called "human wave attacks" that China purportedly used during the Korean War :D :D :D.

I heard there is a new variant of qbz-95 called qbz95G which will be easier and more comfortable to use, as well as using a new brand of ammo that would double the effective range. Btw, the optics in the second picture is the standard optics used by most PLA units. The reason that you dont see it in everyday training or in a lot of the pictures is because its really expensive, so its only used during target practice! the price of one is around 1400RMB.

That's just it, the sad fact is, American audiences will likely just eat up the ak-armed "PLA soldiers" of the new Red Dawn.

Just look at any American media depiction of the Chinese military, and you'll see the term "human wave" come up and up again.

It's not just the average joe either. A friend of mine, who majored in WW2 history and is currently in the Navy, also believes that China won the Korea War with human wave tactics.

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

is there something wrong with the colour black? never noticed anything about it when i was in the army

The Color black is not commonly found in nature and when viewed from NOD stands out as darker then everything else. so a solid black object will stand out especially in a light colored environment like say a desert in daylight. now some colors are almost found everywhere like the color of sand it's neutral enough too be just about every where in urban desert and woodland area's so by choosing a neutral hue like it you can do a quick fix on standing out best is a full camo job done too match that particular area. Snipers have known this for decades and more and more military small arms are getting paint jobs now in tan or green or even camo patterns identical or simplified from there Combat uniforms, this means means the the weapons blend with the gear and if the gear blends with the environment, then your silhouette is broken and ergo you are harder too shoot at.

Well... if China won the Korea War using human wave tactics, then by all means let anyone believe it. It doesn't matter what tactics are being employed (unless you want to major in the historical military tactics for whatever reason). However who won and who lost is a point that are debatable. The US said that they won, because they managed to push the North out of the South past the parallel. China said that they won because they push the allied forces back pass the parallel. So in a sense the allie and China won that war, as both had achieve what they set out to do, the only party losing the war is Korea, which is... they are splitted into two faction. But we can discuss that in the history thread.

Actually black is still the most common colour used. It is the most neutral colour and do not reflect light that well... so it is quite acceptable. Although black had all the standard issues as pointed out by you (and fully accepted and agreed by me), it is still better than many other colour.

If stealth is that much needed, I would believe that most rifles are able to have camouflage done to them. I am in the Army before, and I was trained to camouflage my old M16 rifle too. however even without camouflaging, it would take quite a bit of time to actually identify rifle from branch when a soldier is well camouflaged in the thick of a jungle even without the need to camouflage the rifle.

If camo-ing the rifle is what you're talking about, here's one from the same open-house event, non-standard issue work made by the soldiers themselves...yes I asked about it and they told me that.
