Re: JL-15 and other trainers

If PAF gets L-15, then they will replace the FT-5 and FT-6 in the LIFT role. I don't think this means the end of the twin-seat JF-17, because this variant still has a role in terms of specialized roles. Also, the JF-17 will end up being pricier than its current cost due to the upgrades it will receive; HMD/S, IRST, IFR, AESA, etc. The twin-seat variant may be relatively expensive, and will be posited to take over specialized roles, as well as OCU.

As for K-8, I think PAF will continue inducting them as it is a good basic and intermediate jet training aircraft. In 1994, the PAF stated it had an overall requirement of 75 K-8s to replace the T-37s. It didn't reach that level because the T-37s were given the SLEP, but thus far, 39 K-8s are in service or awaiting delivery. Another 36 will definitely come by 2015 IMO.

By 2015, I think the PAF will have 75 K-8 and 25~30 L-15.

interesting that they are looking for 40 K-8s instead of 18 that they signed. They got some ground attack munitions and also flight simulators as part of the package. They are also possibly getting L-15s.

Has Ukraine allow China to produce the supersonic engine for the JL-15 yet?

anyway, the K-8 still depends on the license production of the Ukraine engine,

Is still not that bad. UKarine is a friendly nation to PRC.. I suppose the supply will remain stable.

I guess to me making stealth fighters yet depending external help on basic trainers doesn't add up.

something weird with that picture.

Re: JL-15 and other trainers

I don't know if you still call it license production anymore. It's kind of like WS-9 with Spey. They went through the entire process of completely indgenizing AI-25 to get WS-11. If it's license production, then they would not have taken 9 years to actually certify WS-11. Ukrainians either give China license production to AI-222 or China will not put in any orders for L-15, it's that simple. So, they will eventually.

Why Venezuela don't consider JF-17? It is already operational.

The JL-17/FC-1 if it is being considered by Venezuela, but it also takes an advanced trainer to complement the K-8 and this is L-15.
