J-10 and F-31

I am curious,

with the appearance of the J-10 and the possibility latest models will/may/do employ thrust vectoring nozzels, I wonder what if any influence the joint F-31 program funded by the US Navy, Germany and Israel had on the designs and systems of the J-10. I think they look very similar and I wonder what other features the two aircraft share.

I am also curious to see the thrust vectoring used on front lin combat aircraft. I think the F22 and the versions of the SU-30 are special cases in that they are very large twin engined fighters will a good amount of fuel loads. What are the penalties (if any ) a J-10 with a thrust vectoring engine would suffer?

the f-31 does not exist. there is f-35, but there is no way j-10 is related to it.

everyone knows the desing of the j-010 came from the lavi, the engines from russia, and the weapons and controls indegedously made. putting tvc on a j-10...is it really necasery? the j-10 is aready a very manuverable plane, and is going to get more manuverable wit the ws-10a. tvc might be a bit tedious to put on. a tvc does not need alot of extra fuel, its just drecting the thrust. any penalties? sure. there will be a high maintenance cost and a higher chance of engine failure. just ask the indians. the entire avionics suite and fbw will need to be redesigned aswell

SO at the end, China might as well just built a fighter plane SIMILAR to the F-35 in ability and class but frame-based on the J-10, since the Jian-10 is flexible and VERY manuverable...

Then again, if the J-10 needs redesigning... itz gonna take forever and just how much is it gonna cost China? American Raptor's cost is like above 100 million and the JSF is only 33-38 million, same cost as the Su-30, I mean if China can built a version comparable to the JSF and cost just around that much, China might as well built it

I am sorry, but that is simply impossible. The J-10 may be able to match the performance of the f-35, but it will never be a stealthy aircraft.:coffee:

NO WAY POSSIBLE!!!

the X-31 is FSW testbed for the USA, how is that compared to a delta wing multirole plane that is gonna enter full production a just a few months

from globalsecurity to FAS and even this site, the Jian-10 is about to enter full production and for export by the end of this year or early next year

X-31!??!!? WTF?!?!? sry i just still dont get it

its typical of the u.s to make test planes. but i dont see why the u.s is goiing for such a design. they already have f-22 and f-35, so why build another plane when uavs are going to take over? maybe they finally realized they have some catgching up to do in the field of manuverability.
seeing how this si a test plane, while the j-10 is in service, its a bit too american to say the j-10 copied the x-31

Correct Knarfo

That was the aircraft I was talking about, it was the X-31. Anyway Germany, Israel and the US Navy all worked together on the project as a technology demonstrator. The reseach studied extreme alpha manuvers as well as thrust vectoring technology. Now that I have been corrected, I was curious if any of the systems, components or results directly effected or influenced the J-10 and the IAI Lavi. I doubt the X-31 is even flying today. I know the X-29 was retired after an interesting test run.
Thanks for the heads up Knarfo

the j-10 and lavi came before this, they were designed in the 80s, so how could they feature stuff from this project?
