Just would like to hear what you guys think about the recent news. China allegedly is considering joining forces in fighting ISIS. Possible Air Ops? I doubt there will be ground troops, but damn it would be a good opportunity to get some combat hours in those new birds. Maybe even naval cruise missiles.

i think the chances of china (the free rider) doing any fighting against ISIS is the same as the Chinese football team qualifying into the next world cup. next to zero:p

Political support to fight terrorists yes, but not military for now. Unless ISIS is stupid enough to attack China and targeting Chinese citizens than you will see the PLA taking action.

I think China would certainly like to cooperate with the US in some kind of international military op, even if to just set a precedent for foreign deployment of its own troops. but ISIS...i dont know Beijing could be concerned about becoming a potential target for retaliation. one does not want to get too much attention lmao.

what they can do is send specops secretly with the consent of US, that way the precedent is set, but no one knows. the US does accept covert assistance, a norm established by iraq's coalition of the willing back in 2002

Any Chinese involvement is any such operation would not be done unilaterally or outside of any Regional Security Organisation of which it is a member. It would also require a solid UN mandate as a pre-requisite.

The chances of joining Mr Obama's coalition of the willing (has anyone yet seen an actual Saudi or Gulf Aircraft overhead and bomb anything?) is precisely zero!

The article you point to is rubbish: troops evacuated from Libya, Russian aggression ect.

That's your opinion. You certainly are entitled to that.

And that is an op-ed piece..what do we expect?
You cannot consider the technicians and laborers evacuated from Libya to have been troops, popeye.
And indeed we do not have to quarrell about the propaganda wrt Ukraine.

Addenda: But if you do not consider propaganda in the article you have nothing left.

The thing about "business insider" they talk alot more about politics than business. Instead of how to take advantage of the situation for business purposes, it focus on things like HK student protests, SEA territorial issues, and comment from the perspective of right or wrong. won't it be better if they focus on the business that could be done from the situation?

I think that China will not involve in fighting with anyone against ISIS/ISIL unless a direct attack or an attempt to do so is made on China. The reason for this is that China can't afford to be seen by the Uyghur as anti-Islam (not that any country can afford it to be seen this way though), but unrest will in my opinion increase if China overtly fights ISIS/ISIL without being attacked first.

I guess their position is that by providing news about political issues will help businesses to assess the risk of their assets and investments.
