Interesting to see that PLAN is excerciseing with Zubr class for amphibious assault and I bet they have done full load testing too

Funny thing is there is 4 x Zubrs and 5 x Type 726 LCAC!!

They can do with a lot more of the Type 726 LCAC PLAN can launch 16 of these units from the 4 x Type LPD if they had the units

Add to that the 4 x Zubrs and PLAN sea lift capacity is massive compared to a few years ago when they had a single LCAC

Let's hope we see more

They are impressive vessels. I just wish the PLAN would put some sort of missile-based defences on them on top of AKs they currently have.

Even an 8 cell FL2000 launcher would make me a great deal more happy about sending such large assets with so many men and materials in their holds onto a hostile beach defended by modern weapons.

Although I would also like to take a long hard look at integrating currently fielded or in development tank based hard kill anti-missile systems on these beasties, since ATGMs are both going to be very common on the modern battlefield, and also be a very serious threat to these vessels, especially when fired en mass, since I would expect and hope most of the heavy AShMs the AKs are optimised against would have already been taken out or neutralised by the time you send the Zubrs in.

As an add-on I would suggest the possible integration of soft kill AM systems such as an upscaled Shtora equivalent for dealing with ATGMs lest the craft be trying to deal with too many threats at once ala the infamous Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) programme in certain country.

Imo it would be better to leave most of the 'hard kill' capabilities to the Navy and Air Force cover which will be essential to such an operation- they will provide fire support to make sure that the massed ATGM firepower never is delivered. Artillery rockets will be far more dangerous, and in far greater quantities of delivered payload, than what ATGMscould ever provide. Hence the dire need for Navy/Air-Force cover, rather than try to overspecialise what is already a very very heavily armed and defended Assault Craft.
