^^^Sorry if I wasn't clear. I wasn't hinting at ballistic missiles, just normal cruise missiles like the ones fired by the type 022 FAC.

I think ballistic missiles will have a steep top entry, and even with dummy warhead should obliterate a target ship this size.

Agreed 100%

Looks like either sea skimming cruise missile...or could even be direct fire.

Those look like exit holes (notice how the metal is bent back and out). I would expect a test of the DF-21D, if that is what this is, to have a much larger exit hole becasue of the speed and energy, even with a dummy warhead.

Also would expect the angle to be much steeper. These holes looks fairly lateral, like it was made with a sea skimming, smaller missile, or even direct fire.

Just my opinion.

It would be extremely improbably that any AShBM could hope to hit something that small. Even a supersonic AShM like the sunburn will probably struggle to hit something that small.

Direct fire with the shell exiting very nearly horizontally would mean fire from such a small distance that the radar reflectors would be quite unnecessary.

OK, so I've been trying to knock together my own little OOB of PLAN. A few details remain, I hope franco-russe, tphuang and other supermen can help me...

For nuclear subs,
I've got 1 091G, 2 094 and 2? 093 at Jianggezhuang (NSF) and
1 092, 2 091G, 1 094 and 2? 093 at Yulin (Sanya) (SSF)
Are these close to suspected numbers? And one more thing, are they assigned to any kind of flotillas? Do we know the flotilla names?

And finally, greatly helped by franco-russes lists earlier in this thread, I got a nice overview of amphibious assets in PLAN, but I'm wondering about how many flotillas and the numbers of these. So far, I have the 6th flotilla in SSF and the 5th in ESF.

EDIT: PS: What is this 62nd sub flotilla I'm hearing about?

As I am easily flattered, I hasten to reply. Your figures look generally right. I see no evidence, though, that HAN 402 has been decommissioned, though Western sources have been reporting that for years.

1st Submarine Base Qingdao-Shazikou (PLAN name for what Western intelligence services call Jianggezhuang, which it, but see:

)

The XIA Type 092 406 is stationed here, as are HAN Type 091G 402 and 403 and two (?) SHANG Type 093. The two JIN Type 094 are usually at Xiaopingdao, which is where 62 Submarine Squadron is based. It has GOLF 200 and ROMEO 351 for missile tests.

2nd Submarine Base Sanya-Yulin

HAN 404 and 405, two SHANG and 1 JIN.

I did a break-down of PLAN amphibious forces elsewhere, but repost it here:

North Sea Fleet

1 Missile Boat Flotilla Qingdao

- 1 Landing Ship Squadron Qingdao
YUTING II 911, 912, YUHAI 3111, 3112, 3113, 3115, 3116, 3117, YUBEI 3128, 3129

East Sea Fleet

5 Landing Ship Flotilla Shanghai-Wusong

- 14 Landing Ship Squadron
YUKAN 927, 928, 929, 930, 931, 932, 933

- 15 Landing Ship Squadron
YUTING I 908, 909. 910, 939, 940, YUTING II 913

16 Missile Boat Flotilla Wenzhou-Longwan

- 3 Landing Ship Squadron Houlintang
- YUNSHU 941, 942, 943, 944, YUHAI 3229, 3244, YUBEI 3232, 3233, 3234, 3235

South Sea Fleet

6 Landing Ship Flotilla Zhanjiang

YUZHAO 998, 999

- 2 Landing Ship Squadron
YUTING I 934, 935, 936, 937, 991

- 16 Landing Ship Squadron
YUTING II 992, 993, 994, 995, 996, 997

- 17 Landing Ship Squadron
YUNSHU 945, 946, 947, 948, 949, 950, YUBEI 3316, 3317, 3318

11 Missile Boat Flotilla Haikou

- 4. Landing Ship Squadron Haikou
YUNSHU 945, YULIANG 973, 974, 975, 977, 979, 980, 986, YUBEI 3315

Hong Kong Squadron Stonecutters Island
YUHAI 7593, 7594, 7595

It actually seems that there are two YUNSHU at Haikou, I guess the second also came from 3 Landing Ship Squadron.

By 2020, Plan surface fleet would be comprising on the following:

Destroyers:

052C – 8
052B – 2
052 - 2
051B - 1
051C - 2
SOV - 4
Total – 19

Frigates:

054 - 2
054A - 18
053H2 - 4
053H3 - 10
Total – 24

OPV:

056 - 60+

FAC:

022 - 100+

LPD:

071 - 4+

AC:

3-4 (Varyag + New)

Plus the possibilities of 052D/058 DDGs & 059 FFGs. This is going to be a hell of a fleet.

I differ somewhat. For the PLAN to have only 8 Type 052C they would have to build no more over the next 7 years. I think that unlikely. Here's my thoughts:

DDG:
- 052C/D – 14
- 052B – 2
- 052 - 2
- 051B - 1
- 051C - 2
-SOV - 4
--- Total – 25

FFG:
- 054A/B - 24
- 054 - 2
- 053H2 - 4
- 053H3 - 10
--- Total – 40

OPV:
- 056 - 30+

FAC:
- 022 - 100+

LPD:
- 071 - 4+

CV:
- Varyag - 1
- New - 2
---Total – 3

SSBN:
- 092 - 1
- 094 - 3
- 006 - 2
---Total – 6

SSN:
- 091 - 2
- 093 - 4
- 095 - 4
---Total – 10

SS:
- Song (039) - 12
- Kilo - 12
- Yaun (041) - 8
- Qing (043) - 8
---Total – 40

Anyhow, that's just my opinion of where they might be in terms of major combatants, which totals 258 vessels.

I believe current inventories (as of 2013) look like this:

DDG:
- 052C/D – 8
- 052B – 2
- 052 - 2
- 051B - 1
- 051C - 2
-SOV - 4
--- Total – 19

FFG:
- 054A/B - 16
- 054 - 2
- 053H2 - 4
- 053H3 - 10
--- Total – 32

OPV:
- 056 - 8

FAC:
- 022 - 100+

LPD:
- 071 - 3

CV:
- Liaoning - 1

SSBN:
- 092 - 2
- 094 - 2
- 096 - 1?
---Total – 5

SSN:
- 091 - 1
- 093 - 3
- 095 - 1?
---Total – 5

SS:
- Song (039)- 12
- Kilo - 12
- Yaun (041) - 6
- Qing (043) - 2?
---Total – 32

Anyhow, that's just my opinion of where they might be in terms of major combatants, which totals 205 vessels.
