Sorry, but this is nowhere near a confirmation. In fact, it's a re-hash of a few different rumors: the shaftless pumpjet, the commissioning of a new 093B submarine, and the interview with Prof. Ma; these rumors have been reported by many "news" agencies in the past and does not represent reality in any way.

CCTV is as official as gospel when it comes to anything PRC-related. You can't really do any better unless Ministry of Defence issues public statements about military technological developments. And that's something Chinese MoD rarely does.

There have been many instances in the past where CCTV simply regurgitates what was written on forums or are simply incorrect about military news. I think people should be cautious especially when it comes to CCTV.

I know CCTV sometimes uses shoddy/inaccurate CGIs when reporting military news. I personally can't remember any instances that CCTV was factually wrong about domestic military development though. Their wordings are usually vague just as in this case. I remember J-10 was simply mentioned in early 2000 as a new domestically built multiple role fighter before its official unveil.

Of course it's possible. I would probably doubt it if this is indeed the first time rim drive on newly developed sub was mentioned anywhere. But this is not case here. There have many news reports/interviews about professor Ma's work on rim drive. The development of new class nuclear submarines and the construction of sub assembly are mentioned many times in the other Chinese medias. Given the official status of CCTV, its featuring of this news further lends credibility to the notion that 095 sub has rimdrive. But if one insists on visual confirmation/evidence, he would probably have to wait a long time as this is how PRC operates especially when it comes to its secretive nuclear sub force.

My kind of China watching is I don't need official confirmations or direct references to indicate a new direction. That will be behind the curve. In this instance, if shaftles pumpjet has no other definitions than a rim drive, I take it as all but confirmed.

No, not really. It's a conflation of a few different recent developments: the development of IEPS and shaftless pumpjet from Ma Weiming's interview and the launch/commissioning of a new type of nuclear submarine (rumored to be 093B), and is no evidence that the two are related in any way.

CCTV is an Official Chinese News Site.
So anything regarding about China's issue, I tend to believe their Official news site more than many biased Western Media.

And I believe this is an Official Confirmation regarding China's Nuclear Submarine Development.

You can keep believe Dave Majumdar, Kyle mizokami, and National interest biased media Stronggg. It's your choice.

You can believe what you want, that's your right. But I have right too, to believe what I believe it's True.

Recently, when CCTV introduced the subject of future non-nuclear-powered domestic aircraft carriers that will use electromagnetic catapult systems, it suddenly change subject and declared a good news from the Chinese Navy: The Chinese Navy has already received a new type of nuclear submarine. The development of this boat lasted for five years. It adopts shaftless pumpjet and is more advance than today's mainstream pumpjet propellers.

It is not a new rumor. It is the same rumor that has been posted in 093/094 thread last November. Here is the post that started it.#1402

The sina weibo video that you linked is this one from CCTV4 2017-11-18. It talked about rim drive on the new sub at 8:36

Yes, CCTV4 program said PLAN has received new sub with rim drive.

Other members here argue that CCTV4 program is not to be treated equally credible as CCTV1 and CCTV13's news program, especially the 30mins news program from 19:00 every evening. Those two programs are official (equal to PLAN speaking). But any other programs run by CCTV may or may not be credible as they are commercial rather than political and governmental. That is what my life-long experience tells me. Not wanting to brag, but I grow up in an environment where parents attend internal briefing according to ranks, I learnt from childhood by reading People's daily, Xianhua Editorial, Red Flag Magazines publicans and China Central People's Broadcast Station and CCTV. I know what I can count on as official.

I am not refuting CCTV4 claim as false. I am trying to say that, if it is from CCTV1 19:00 30min program, it is 100% true (at least to me). Otherwise, there is always a chance that it is as much reliable (or unreliable) as a talk show.

Again, the new rumor from the March 26th weibo is nothing new but a rehash. The author probably went to Mars, (a common Chinese netizen term, 火星了).
