I thought the Indian first generation Arihant looks pretty good. It doesn't have a hump and tiny holes on the sides which has more smoother lines than than China 2-nd generation 094.

India got alot of help from Russia in its design and learned alot from usage of Akula

I think China needs to improve the 094 design and it can't have those outdated hump anymore.
Maybe China can buy a few Akula subs or even Yasen. I think it can help.

:) Are you paying compliment to the Russia.

Arihant is just a rip-off or an unlicensed copy of the Charlie-I class nuclear cruise missile submarine which India leased from Russia in 1988.

"I am always wondering what is actually the purpose of tiny holes on the side of Type 094 ? ... my apologies if this is a lame question"

The tiny holes are for expelling air from the ballast tanks during diving. The tiny holes may not look high tech to some, but if they make smaller air bubbles, that should be a plus acoustically?

Can't wait for clearer pictures of this beastie. But the outline certainly looks promising.

However, given that I suspect the primary reason for the loudness of Chinese SSN/SSBNs are down to the reactors, unless they are trialling new gen reactors on these boats, I would not expect a massive decrease in noise level compared to 093.

If they did use a new reactor design, I think it would warrant a new class designation.

From this clip it says the new sub uses improved reactor with natural cooling circulation to reduce noise
at 02:13 mark. I am not sure what that mean whether its new reactor or not.

The clip also said Navy trying out new equipment late last year, many think that's the 093B subs the navy training on. Yes, it's in service.

For comparison of 093b versus 093, the new one is so much fatter and bulkier. I think it might use different propulsion.

Why should it be a rip-off or unlicensed copy of anything, if India admitted at launch that Russian input in the boat is about 75-80% ?

As with the Yuan/Kilo Thread, the entire OT conversation about small, swarming underwater drones deleted.

This is the PLAN Type 093/094/095 Thread.

Keep it on Topic gents.

DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS MODERATION

094 noisy or more as a Delta III 125/130+ dB ! an average to cruise, tactical speed , in this case could be detected up to 200 + km, Xian again more Noisy !

Seawolf/Virginia and Astute the best 95 db extremely quiet submarines after Severodvinsk/688i/Akula III/Kilo/last Western SSK 100/105, AIP more quiet in AIP mode

The noise depends ofc sea, salinity, temperature, depth many parameters and for detection idealy sonar + towed sonar with a helo around in more the best.
Noise are classified as RCS, armor for tanks impossible get an exact figure

A Ohio want about a LA or 688i.

No data for 091 sure noisy a 094 to 130 dB ? 093 minimum 110 dB presumably more, 093G normaly more quiet 5 dB ? usual improvment for a generation.
