??? Could this have been photoshopped? What's up with the uninterrupted dark line running almost the entire length of the boat?

the dark line is something like save net or scarffold

09IIIA most probably. The basic 09III had interrupted drainage holes.

Shows how hard it is to track PLAN submarines. They have 09IIIB with VLS already, and only now we have the first ever picture evidence of the improved non-VLS Shang that has been rumored for years...

Doesn't look PSed. I believe those are drainage holes?

Jeff could you enlighten us...
My guess is that it is a place where the towed array is stored.

Let's take a better look:

Type93B-SSN.jpg

...and compare it to a US Navy LA Class boat, the USS Salt Lake City SSN-716 and it's towed array storage:

Anyhow...that is what it looks like to me.

I thought this looked interesting:

Whether or not this is real is up for debate, but it does somewhat correspond well with a supposed model of the Type 096

While there are a number of differences between the two, there are a number of similarities such as the overall shape of the coning tower being the same (albeit the model's coning tower is significantly larger).
Thoughts?

Sorry, I only just now realized I spelled conning wrong.

Henri K. is predicting that construction of a new Chinese SSBN type might begin in 2016.

On another note, the Type 096 is unlikely to have 24 missiles and certainly will not exhibit the rugged and "noisy" design elements seen on the model.
