hmmm 2nd generation generate both AC and DC and then connected to DC grid? really

All big generation basically DC ... why would you converted to AC and then converted back to DC to connected to DC grid?

The problem of DC grid is there is no easy way to convert/transform to different voltage (unlike AC which simply can use Transformers) .. also I can't imagine how complicate the protection system would be on DC grid .... totally different tech ... imagine the CB and bus arrangement? ... wowwww

Also imagine how big the cable would be? ... thats why Tesla won against Edison :)

I am not saying I am against DC .... I know DC is the future .... just don't fully understand it yet ... and it seems eventually Edison was right :)

A correction to my previous post, the 2nd gen's name in the fyjs billboard picture (交直流集成发供电) is some thing translated to AC/DC integrated electricity generation and transmission. The generator is AC/DC combo. However somewhere else (in the interview) he also mentioned going to DC transmission (grid) skipping the US/UK practice (1st gen).

I don't fully understand the AC part in the 2nd gen either, I can't say. I do want to know that too.

However I do know in 2nd gen (the bold texts above) that the AC is not converted from the DC outside of generator by a rectifier. The generator generate both AC and DC simultaneously. What the purpose of the AC current and how it is utilized? I don't know.

bearing-less or shaft-less can all be used to translate his word, it means propulsion device without a driving shaft which rim drive belongs to. So your understanding is correct.

IEPS in this context (regarding what the interview is telling) is only the electricity generation and distribution system. IEPS may include and rightly so the pumpjet, but since it can be used by conventional power source it is not the core part of IEPS and therefor justify the exclusion of it in the discussion.

What is the timestamp in the video that he mentions bearingless or shaftless propeller again?

my mistake, it is not his word, at least I did not catch him saying it when I watched the interview.

I mixed up the interview and the fyjs post who claimed the device in the interview being the propeller (by guessing the Chinese characters on the billboard in the interview video).

However, I did see 3rd character from the left being "无" and 6th character from the left being "喷" with 70% possibility.

You can try to check at 9:15 minutes.

052C skip right to AESA while all the Burkes are still using PESA

A bit off today, but I have always been wondering about this, people still says 052C and 052D AESA radar is inferior than Burke's PESA radar, because AESA radar in theory is more advanced tech, but PESA radar on Burkes are more mature and more efficient, so it be like 1st gen dual core CPU vs the latest single core CUP.

Is this the case?

So in fact Ma did NOT mention rim drive in the interview where he pointed at the IEP and said it was being used in the next generation of subs? What a shocker. BTW "pumpjet" is a general term that could apply to both rim drive and standard shafted propulsion involving a shrouded propulsor so saying pumpjet will not be specific enough to distinguish between shafted and rim drive propulsion systems.

In fact, after going over the part of the video involving the interview in that room with the IEP, he doesn't mention either rim drive or submarines at all, only that the US is using IEP and that China will also be using it, which is not exactly a surprise as it's widely believed that the 054B will be using IEP.

"无" means no so you can deduce the next character should be shaft adding to the overall context "喷" means pump. Isn't that self evident obvious enough? It was a blurry video about a brief superficial interview. Have you have no life that you have to debate your own delusional abstract false assumption straw man that you made yourself all in your head so you can pick a bone in a egg and feel good about yourself? Now you know why you are a "Virgin"-nia, Iron Girl? Did you just had a date with your right hand? HaHaHa

Reported. Enough with your idiocy.

he doesn't mention shaftless/rim drive, but he does mention nuclear submarines in that part of video in the room with the IEP at 9:19 to 9:20

核潜艇 means nuclear submarine

What he says in that section is "这个是下一代核潜艇现在已经在应用的“ which translates to "this is what the next generation submarine currently is already using". (edit: actually this is a mistaken translation on my part, see below)

So he's pretty explicit about the next generation submarine using that system. But based on what he says it's hard to tell what he means by "already using" -- does he mean it is already in service and already using it (probably unlikely), or that it is under construction and is already "using it" in the sense that it's already installed and possibly under test, or merely that it has been decided that the next generation submarine will be using it (which would suggest that the next generation submarine has yet to be built/installed with the system)?

edit: I forget, he said "应用" which should more accurately translate to "apply" or "application" rather than "in use". In that sense, I think saying that this technology is "already being applied" in the next generation submarine makes a lot more sense.

Ok I missed that. On the other hand he is clearly pointing at the IEP display model and not the rim drive display model. Also he says that the US is using it, which if he is talking about rim drive is clearly wrong as no USN sub or USN ship is using rim drive currently, while the US is certainly already using IEP on their Zumwalts.
