075 LHD thread

The way I see it, the amphibious assault fleet they are currently building is intended to be capable of both blue water amphibious operations as well as major amphibious operations near home such as a Taiwan contingency.

What is the Taiwan contingency you speak of and what role would the 071 and 075 have to play there?

On the island of Taiwan?

Yes, the island of Taiwan. What else could it possibly refer to?

As @williamhou has pointed out, LPDs and LHDs are intended for blue water operations. While these ships could help in your scenario, they are far from being the best tool.

My response to him on the previous page is literally me addressing what he wrote and also answers your prior question as to the role of 075s and 071s in a Taiwan invasion.

Well, it isn't like the PLAN lacks for LSTs, and they are actively building quite a large number of the 726 LCACs. They also have a fairly sizeable fleet of older LCUs that would be relevant for a Taiwan contingency as well.

Additionally, while LPDs and LHDs are necessary for blue water amphibious operations, they would also play a very important role in a Taiwan contingency given an 071 can carry quite a large number of ZBD05 family vehicles; and 075s and 071s together will likely boast quite sizeable aviation complements that will enable more organic helicopter support for an assault force as well.

My point was merely that 071 and 075 would not play a very important role in the invasion of the Taiwan island, nor are they being built with that in mind.

Apparently, there was an order placed for 3 x 075's. Do members here think that they will be built one after another, or that the 2nd and 3rd ships will be built together?

Some here believe the modules sitting next to the dry dock are more than what's needed for the lead ship. If true, then construction will be staggered. In other words, the second ship would be 50% complete by the time the lead ship is ready for launch. When the 2nd ship is ready for launch, the third ship would be partially complete.

I would think that the three pieces at the bottom of the picture is for the ship in the right, likely to complete the rear of the ship.

Much of the pieces on the stock yard to the left is waiting for the Type 071 to leave so the gantry can move these pieces to the left side of the dock where the 071 is and was. This is to lay down the second ship.

Both of these hulls occupy the same basin. Which means they are both going to get floated and moved at the same time. So, you might see too 075s in there together, next.
