075 LHD thread

That's confusing and doesn't make much sense to me.

We haven't even seen a single LHD launched, let alone operated by PLAN. Now they're designing a second, larger class of LHD? Why is this presumed second LHD so closely following the first one? Since PLAN has never operated any LHD, one would think that it at least takes some time for PLAN to operate it before the experience is incorporated into the design of the next generation. LHD is not that difficult to build, compared with some of China's other combat ships. If tonnage is the reason for the second class, why not start with the 40k class from the beginning? Why the need of the 30k class LHD to begin with?

There are so many holes in this rumor; it can hardly be called credible.

it's not entirely illogical -- for example, I'm sure that plans and designs for 003 were worked on before Liaoning entered service. Planning ahead for a larger and more capable design before the first of a type is complete isn't out of the question. I would argue the PLAN's operation of 071 and Liaoning provides a respectable basis to make some informed decisions regarding what they want out of their LHD as well.

as for starting with the 30k ton class, it could have been a case of conservatism at the time when the decision was made, but requirements and/or confidence had since changed, but it may also be too late to scrap the 30k ton class LHDs that have already been worked on.

this isn't to say I believe the rumour but I think it isn't crazy by any stretch

Two elevators, six deck parks and six landing spots. Standard displacement likely 30,000-ish tons.

Wow also has a well deck for 3 x LCAC

Is this the annual advertisement for LHD we have been seeing for last 5 years

"Big Cat" confirmed yesterday that it will hold minimum two LCACs. So, considering his own drawing has three, it seems the final number of LCAC 075 can hold is between either two or three. And the helicopter hanger isn't really smaller than Wasp or America Class. It's just the location is different. He also said there'll be three ships in the first batch and 6 more afterwards. So, it's possible we will see minimum nine 075/075As in the coming years.

He said that the three 075s can hold a total minimum of 6 LCACs, not that it will be followed by 6 more 075s.

Someone on the source thread also misinterpreted it in this way, so it's an understandable mistake.

Seems highly unlikely that an LHD can hold six of lcac. Type 726 measures 33m x 16m. A ship that carries six of these will be way heavier than 30000 tonnes. Even if the ship uses its entire lowest level as a dock(unlike the above pic which seems to divide functionality of lowest level between various types of storage), it'll be quite a stretch to fit 6 of those behemoth 726 into the dock. (Bdw, does somebody have a picture of 4 type 726 inside the type 071?, i've come across various pics showing 3 of them inside the dock but had a doubt about its official statement of fitting 4 lcac).
