The cockpit was initially a small area where cocks fought and with around them people betting on the outcome of the fight. Transferred to water it became a small area in a boat to handle the tiller and some of the ropes to control the sail(s). Its meaning has been stretched very far.:)

So seems like a LHD/LHA is under construction first order for 3 units is planned

Steel cutting said to be soon

Added to the LPD fleet this will form the first amphibious ready group

3 X LPD + 1 X LHA per fleet should give China 3 X ARG

This should ensure 1 marine expeditionary unit is always deployed

Add to that a CSG and we have two strike groups deployed at any one time

One in close waters and one far

The Chinese navy is coming together

If anyone ever doubted the similarities between the Type 071 Class LPD and the US San Antonio Class LPD...take a look at these two pictures of my 1/350 scale models of each side by side:
