I was quoting from my memory, so some of the details were not exactly correct.

This is an article reporting on the various achievements of Mr. Li Xiaotang, who is the chief designers for a series of gas turbines, including QD128、QD70、QD185、R0110. Buried in all the Chinese official cliches is this paragraph:

So this is definitely speaking specifically to the gas turbine used to power Type 726?

I translate the above as:

Translation said:
A small marine gas turbine power project profile development, which is the Navy 's first gas turbine based power project alone , but also the development of the aviation industry for the first time assume ship power independent intellectual property rights .

Li Xiaotang as gas turbine model designer, face development time is short, the task urgent, technical difficulties and other difficulties , the use of a series of advanced technology , the use of concurrent engineering and project management, design, production , testing and assembly processing station renovation all aspects of the work will be reasonable, relevant departments clear responsibility , high-speed operation .

In December 2006 , the gas turbine test site in the old A205 test stand debugging , marking the aviation industry with a power independent intellectual property products will open up another new applications. After that, the new test stand just 69 days to complete the overall durability of the assessment tests.

In April 2008 , this type of gas turbine successfully passed technical appraisal , comprehensive technical indicators have reached the international advanced level , by early 2015 prototype technical evaluation, the user now has small orders.

Sounds like, if true, that it took (as you say) years to develop and overcome the difficulties, but now he has a good engine and is getting orders.

If that is so, we should definitely start seeing more Type 66s.

They have built four Type 071s and need four LCAC for each...and apparently they will be building at least two more Type 071s.

Yes.

Soon...we will be able to perhaps see this:

Now that Jeff is a outstanding picture and really sums up the Chinese shipbuilding over the last few years

A stunning fleet of very capable LPD and a sight to see

However we might not be so lucky as the 4th unit will be going to ESF and might not sit with the units at SSF

Eventually I hope each fleet gets a flotilla of Type 071 LPD to make 9 in total

This programme has been painfully slow and even more slower in terms of capability building goes, but I really hope we start seeing amphibious operations in the true sense now that the LCAC engine issues seem to be fixed

Marked rear deck, rusted well deck, helo marks and packed out LCAC that's the true use of a LPD, sitting in emasculate condition does not do them justice at all
