I mean early on it did not make sense why China kept on announcing full displacement as 19000 ton when it had the same dimensions pretty much as San Antonio class. Makes you wonder what the full displacement of 054A and 052C/D are.

Are you suggesting 054A full displacement is more than 4,000 ton and 052D > 7,500 ton ?

054A was reported as 4053 ton and it's really higher than that.

052C was reported as 6200 ton i think and it's probably higher than that.

Nice CGIs...but they are fanboy dreams IMHO.

I could see upgrading the CIWS going to two 730 CIWS and two 18 Cell FL-3000N missile launchers perhaps.

But 32 or 64 VLS? A 130mm gun? A sophisticated APAR system?

I just do not see that ever happening for the LPD as an LPD.

Perhaps one day they will consider a dedicated area defense missile ship based on that hull form like the US Navy is looking at with the San Antonio class LPD hull form. But then it is no longer an LPD..

Overzeolous fanboys. Trying to turn a LPD into a destroyer. I can maybe see a high calibre gun mounted for surface bombardment but even that is a stretch.
LPD/LHDs etc don't travel alone and offensive weapons system is not necessary and not practical. If you need LPDs to do the fighting you've already lost. The Russians figured that out when they basically mounted all those weapons in the Kiev class.. even they thought it was ridiculous and this was back in the 80s and Kiev wasn't even a LPD.

I can see an LPD carrying a larger calibre gun, and even a medium sized integrated mast with APAR... but VLS is too much.
