And they move along at 33 knts! Amazing. They can keep up with the carrier task force if necessary (though they in reality would probably not be asked to do so), or their escorts when having to put on a full head of steam (well, that;s old speak for full speed ahead!).

Those ships were escorted by Spruance class DDs and Arliegh Burke DDGs. they never operated with carriers. Nor were they ever intended to do so. The high speed is for quick sealift to the area of operations.

Understood...but, in a large, honest-to-goodness war where sea denial was practised against the US, you never know what it might take to escort them. Hardly likely I know...my point was just that they are very fast and could keep up with such a task force.

#3 has been in water for a while now, should be on sea trial pretty soon, no confirmed sighting on a fourth hull.

LOL! But humor aside, that is a good question. Is it going to be 1000 then? With number four being 1001. Perhaps Tphuang can weigh in here. Any ideas?
