I read somewhere that the new HMG might be a two barrel 14.5mm turret.

The Navy does have a two barrel 14.5mm turret in service, specifically the QJG-02, but it is quite old and I believe there is a modernized variant of it which exists and was installed on the PLAA's new LSM ship from a few years ago however I haven't found good pictures of the turret.

Obviously as of yet we don't know if the 056's 30mm replacement turrets are twin barrel or single barrel, however the twin barrel variety has been observed in the "close anti surface gun" role for a variety of PLA small ships like LSMs, LCTs etc.
A twin barrel 14.5mm gun replacing a 30mm gun would not be a bad trade.

    edit:

this is an image of the old dual barrel 14.5mm naval turret, used on older LCTs and older small landing craft. I believe there is a newer variant with a more enclosed turret but I can't find any good pictures of it.
The PLAA's LSM launched a few years ago was installed with the new turret.

Now it's PLAN put how much CIWS needs (role) on 056(A). That HMG looks none in this aspect.

Or, think from the other way: how effective that H/PJ-17 30mm prove to PLAN? 056 is the first surface ships using it, followed by export, some 2nd-line ships and coast guard. Wonder how PLAN felt about it.

I hope they still leave space to upgrade (back from HMG) once needed.

Agreed, but my guess will end at ~70-75
Wondering what happen to Type 022 ? obviously Type 056 is way better than 022

022 may be relegated to Coast Guard duties. India have fast CG cutters with water jets similar to 022.

Type 022 is a one-trick pony and has limited use in today's PLAN with modern coastal ASCM batteries that far outrange the YJ-83. It would be (presumably) cheaper to have more of those than more Type 022s. I guess you could swap out the YJ-83 with a more modern missile, but I don't think the PLAN has any newer ASCMs that will fit inside the confines of the 022's limited missile launcher spaces.

Type 022 is total rubbish short range no radar very poor

Type 056 was way over due

    It’s a huge leap in capability’s

    Also now configured for ASW

Type 022 cannot free up a FFG or DDG

But a formation of 4 x Type 056 can sweep littoral waters for sub hunting

In its current role the Type 022 is mostly useless at this point. However, once the YJ-83 gets retired and if you start thinking outside the box, a formation of (e.g.) 4x Type 022 could potentially launch 32 ASW missiles and serve as missile batteries for any number of shore, ship or airborne-based detectors. ASW is a role I could easily see the Type 022 slide into, and where range and reaction time could still be enhanced by sailing this boat out to sea and where advanced/expensive radars are completely unnecessary.

I could also see a role for the Type 022 with minimal modification to load and launch various unmanned vehicles like UAVs or UUVs, or even serve as sensors by carrying TAS/VDS.

They can also be modified as UAVs themselves for these roles.
