I mean why have two different ways to launch, tube and rocket ?

Torpedoes are slow and have limited range.

An ordinary tube-launched torpedo is just ejected over the side of the ship using compressed air or similar. It is essentially a reactive, close range weapon.

With Yu-8 and similar weapons, the torpedo is attached to a booster rocket that travels through the air up to a couple dozen kilometres from the ship, where the torpedo detaches and enters the water. It is a more proactive weapon suited to engaging submarines at longer distances, potentially queued by other ASW assets such as the shipboard helicopter.

If you tube-launch an ASW torpedo at a distant submarine the time it takes to get there will give the target plenty of time to launch its attacks, and plenty of warning to maximise its chances of escape, while using up most of the torpedo's fuel stores before it even arrives at the area. Yu-8 arrives in the target area much faster and drops the torpedo (ideally) right on top of the target, giving it minimal opportunity to escape.

It uses the same box launcher as the YJ-83 anti-ship missiles.

This is a pretty major limitation given that the 056 only has four such launchers to share between two types of missile, which is one of the reasons I think PLAN needs a larger and better equipped vessel for littoral sub-hunting duties.

How is Yu-8 launched from Type 056 there is no VLS?

Any photos ?

The ASROC used aboard the 056 is probably not the Yu-8, but rather a different design that is launched from the slant launchers. PLA-watchers have tentatively called it the Yu-11 but we have no idea what its real designation is.

So deck mounted launchers can be refitted with rocket propelled torpedo albeit a modest load since there is 4 canisters

Overall adds to improved ASW capability of Type 056

It give flexibility to hunt the sub in conjunction with Z9C. Z9C is too small it can only carry single torpedo Having it data link with the ship allow Z9C to hunt the sub without carrying torpedo .And once it find the sub. Then Z9c can give the order to the ship to fire the torpedo. that way it shorten the sub reaction time and lessen the change that the sub can run away. And increase the loitering time

50km is the extreme end of Z9C operating radius most likely operation is less than that But
that is assuming you have standard torpedo but in the future they will equipped this sucker with this guy with 200 knot speed supercavitating torpedo. So how how much chance does the submarine has against Shkval?

Anyway your number are a bit off Submarine speed is rarely goes above 30 knot=0.92km/sec and the rocket speed is not Mach 0.85 but Mach 0.95=(1163km/hr)/60=19.5km/sec So distance of 50km can be reached in 2-1/2 sec. So the submarine move about 2.3km which standard range of torpedo with 50 knot speed and 1 hr endurance
