The PLAN never intruded in Japanese territorial waters. Diaoyu Islands are not Japanese sovereign territory.

The JMSDF has every right to kill every intruder in Japanese territorial waters. Likewise, the PLAN has every right to kill intruders in Chinese territorial waters.
it's obvious !

If a time a Chinese was close of Japan in territorial waters ?
Shenkaku Islands are Japanses if you did not know LOL

I'm not talking about Takeshima Islands so let's cut all the unnecessary discussion here but Ryukyu Islands. Those surely aren't PRC territory whether you like it or not. It happened in 2004, in 2013 (or14?) as well. And just last year during Malbar exercise Chinese intelligence gathering ship was within Japnese territorial waters. I think that you don't care at all about Japanese SSK being some 13 nautical miles out of PRC coastline in this case?

I would love to hear that on this board after JMSDF got PLAN submarine within 12 miles of it's own territory.

End of discussion for you.

Sure, i'm all for it. What's good for the goose should be good for the gander as well

I see two major rationales for a vessel larger than 056 (while still smaller than 054):

1. To increase range, endurance and seakeeping qualities, allowing it to take on a greater subset of frigate taskings, thereby freeing additional vessels for blue water operations.

2. To create an affordable, first-rate ASW combatant able to make life difficult for hostile submarines within the congested waters of the first island chain and SCS. 056 is capable, but has several limitations as an ASW vessel: no hanger, no ASROC, and low top speed.

Notional specs:

1x 76mm main gun

16x VLS. Typical loadout: 6x AShM, 6x ASROC, 4x quad-pack MRSAM

1x Type 730/1130 or HHQ-10 CIWS

Torpedo Tubes, Bow, VDS, Towed array sonars

Hanger for 1x new-generation ASW helicopter

CODOG/CODAG propulsion (1xQC280)

Top Speed: 30-33 knots.

Displacement: ~2800 tons.
A 056B or a successor to the 056 would not be loading any kind of VLS that could carry any ASCM or ASW missile. Both would require at minimum the 7m UVLS which a ship like the 056 would certainly not be able to carry. There is also no MRSAM that currently fits inside the 3m UVLS including both the HHQ-16 and the DK-10A, and TBH I have no idea what missile the 3m version is designed to carry in any case. I would be surprised if any 056-type ship carried any kind of VLS. I would expect a 056 successor to have a hangar and maybe 8 slant launchers instead of 4, but nothing beyond that would really be necessary or even beneficial for this class of ship to carry out its duties.

It's a <3000-ton vessel with a full-size VLS system, thereby demonstrating that it is possible. I never implied that such a vessel would be derived from 056.

Slant-launch is probably fine for anti-ship missiles but a serious limitation for anti-submarine torpedo rockets like Yu-8 owing to their short burn time. Even with eight slant launchers with four devoted to Yu-8, that's only two per side...
