I doubt they will get the new ciws; it's only a minor increase in point defence capability . But I'd like old 054As to get the new VDS if possible, possibly during MLUs.

well, Type 1130 is significantly better than Type 730. Its number of barrels are 11. Compared to its seven-barreled Type 730 predecessor, which only has one magazine of 250 rounds, Type 1130 carries two magazines. Each contains 640 rounds. it ia able to fire more than 10,000 rounds per minute, with a chance of hit rate placed at 90 percent against Mach 4 missiles.

Type 1130 is now installed on Liaoning, 052D and new 054A

Yes but who's going to eat the cost of those Type 730s that come out if you upgrade all 054As sporting the 730s? All the 054As are young and ROI on those 730s haven't been recouped. Maybe when each vessel is due for a mid-life refit, that would be an ideal time. But by then, who knows if the 1130s will be the best in the portfolio?

I'm well aware of the advantages of 1130 over 730, and I'm saying that its advantages probably aren't worth replacing over. Any 730s replaced by 1130s will have to go somewhere, and let's recall that these are only CIWS we're talking about. Optimally they should never have to be used in most scenarios in the first place. Off the top of my head I can come up with a half dozen other upgrades that would be more useful for 054A than replacing its CIWS.

Also, I'm not sure where the 90% interception rate against mach 4 missiles originally came from, but it's a stupid claim and doesn't make sense.

well, I agree the Type 730 is relatively new, and I didn't say the upgrades to be now, perhaps lets say 10-15 years from now

If Type 730 weighs less than Type 1130, it might be a good match for Type 056 successor/LCS-lite in 2020s, along with necessary software/sensor mods to improve its general purpose utility.

Isn't it a bit too soon on talking about an 056 successor? Or do you mean another variant of the current 056 like a stretched hull? But I still think it be top heavy for a stretched 056 unless the FL-3000N is gone. Don't think that's a prudent choice.

If for some reason, the 1130s are that much of an increase in performance justifying bringing in all the current 054As with 730s for a swapout, another venue would be to refurb the 730s and export them such as if Pakistan orders more F-22Ps.

Or maybe installing them onto the larger CG vessels but keep in mind, the larger CG vessels are mostly unarmed for a specific purpose, to limit the scope of confrontation taking place out in ECS and SCS.

So I will stick with the 730s staying on their respective 054As for quite some time.
