As posted by a Chinese member at PDF who has recently posted an image of the 2nd 052D under construction at 'Dalian' shipyard.
From what i've read so far, Dalian are not as quick as JN in building the 052D, but that's not surprising, as it must take a bit of time for a shipyard to find its feet and learn the ropes on building a new class of warship.......and Dalian seems to appear to build their warships outside.
In contrast 'JN' have become the Destroyer specialists in China, and now have the 052D class on a very quick production turnaround!
So, are Dalian building the 052D due to the Chinese Navies requirement for a large number of 052D's to help out JN with the burden............or are they taking over some of the production, so JN can concentrate on the 'beast' the 055 Cruiser?
It has also been revealed that China maybe building more Destroyers and Frigates than people think, so as to create an extra flotilla for each of its fleets..............to do so it has been reported that another shipyard is being considered for construction........to help with the build!

I would be surprised if DL started building 055 before it finished its 052D run...

Though I'm not surprised at the possibility of them having a dual destroyer line.
That picture shows DL's first 052D on the right, and partially blocked by the deliberate white patch seems to be a module for possibly the second 052D on the left of DL's D1. Though the angle of the photo makes it look like the module could also just be a part of D1 without scaffolding.
We'll know with time if this is actually a module, and if it is an 052D.

I actually meant so JN could start building the 055!

I did winder if that image posted, was still the 1st 052D image at Dalian myself.........but the poster at PDF who provides us with a great deal of info on Chinese navy developments, does have an excellent record so far of providing us with upto date, accurate news on the Chinese Navy.........but as you say time will tell!

According to Henri K., ~18 052Ds will be built, four of which will come from Dalian.

If this build info on the 052D is correct, together with the latest build figures for the 054A Frigate, then this give some value to the report from a Chinese poster at PDF, that the Chinese Navy is expecting to add another Destroyer/Frigate flotilla to each of its 3 fleets.
Interesting....eh?

To be frank, I'd venture a guess that this poster simply got lucky with his "predictions". From what I've heard the PLAN might be adding a new fleet altogether.

Henri K., last Friday:
Jusqu'à présent, on compte 9 exemplaires construits ou en cours de construction au chantier naval Changxing Jiangnan de Shanghai, et 2 à Dalian. On sait en parallèle que Dalian a obtenu un contrat d'extension de 2 autres exemplaires.

Au total, on serait déjà à 18 exemplaires commandés. Les sources proches de la marine chinoise indiquent que les commandes supplémentaires seront passées dans les années à venir.

Henri says that 9 052D's are built or building of which two in Dalian, and 18 have been ordered of which four are built in Dalian, the others at JN. Sources near to PLAN indicate that further orders are to be given in later years.

I can easily believe that the total build of the Type 052D will be eighteen vessels. If we add that to the news that the PLAN is going to build a total of 32 Type 054As from this same source, then the PLANs inventory of modern DDGs and FFGS becomes:

1 x Type 051B (Being upgraded)
2 x Type 052B (Being upgraded)
4 x Sov
2 x Type 051C
6 x Type 052C
18 x Type 052D
Total = 33 Modern DDGs

2 x Type 054
32 x Type 054A
Total = 34 Modern FFG

18 Type 052Ds and 6 Type 052Cs, coupled with the Type 054As makes for a very strong, capable modern force for the PLAN, particularly in the Western Pacific.
