The Sina news stated today that the second 052D (173 Changsha) has been commissioned in the South Sea Fleet. 172 has also finished undergoing live ammunition testing. No pictorial evidence, so not sure how credible this source is. Nevertheless, there were also no pictorial evidence of the commissioning of 153 Xian, but now we know that it is in service.

Yes.........i had heard from elsewhere on a.n.other forum that the 2nd 052D had been commissioned, and had been so in the spring of this year. It was also suggested by Chinese military forum members that there appeared to be a trend where there appears to be less news from China on the commissioning of its warships, particularly latter ships of a class. This is sort of borne out, when earlier this year the 6th 052C was commissioned with very little news, and also when a pair of 054A Frigates were commissioned in January of this year, the Chinese media only commented on one vessel being made active!
