052C/052D Class Destroyers

Yes we've known that JN will be building 8 052Ds and DL 4 052Ds ... each, at least.

Those pictures don't show D7 I think, but possibly D8?

I'll be curious if JN builds a D9 given the current projection is only 8 052Ds for JN before moving onto 055. But if they do continue with 052D while also building 055 (which we should see evidence of soon I think), that would have some implications for the future force structure.

Yes I meant D7 ready launch as in from the hallway anytime soon with modules for D8 being readied

Let's wait for more pictures to confirm D9 it's just a guess as of now, they might close after D8 and switch to Type 055 but I don't see any large enough module for CG construction yet

Either way 12 x Type 052D and 6 x Type 052C is 18 very capable and advanced DDG

"The 052C/Ds have a long way to go in terms of matching the US Navy's Arleigh Burke-class," Chang said. "Please check the signal cables' arrangements to the mast and the navigation light allocations on the stern. It is pathetic to spend so much money to build a major combatant with such a low level of industrial discipline."

What is he talking about? I thought the arrangements are fine.

By "signal cables", I assume he is talking about the flaghoist. So he doesn't like the way PLAN fly its flags. Can any member with navy experience tell us what's wrong with the flaghoist on 052D?
In any case, I think it is weird criteria to compare the capabilities of 052D and Arleigh Burke class.

I saw this article a few months ago and while it is decently intentioned it's a bit of a mess. Their projection of 8 052Ds is way off, and obviously that last part about signal cables and stern navigation lights is ridiculous and confusing. Actually it's just very confusing, there's two or three layers of confusion in that paragraph it's almost embarrassing to pick apart.

So yeah, this isn't really an article I would post in support of any position, apart from maybe that some PLA watchers really need to step up their game.

I know it is from DefenseNews...but it sounds an awful lot like you know where...WCT!

Latest google earth update of Yulin naval base at feb this year. 2 054As, 1 052C, 2 052Ds

Would make a nice solid core of a CSG escort detachment

Also note the similar size of the 054As compared to 052C/Ds. That may make active radar or even long range EO/visual ID and confirmation of the ships difficult for an opfor, which is no small mistake given the sheer difference in capability between the FFGs and DDGs.

054A's bow also looks like it has the bow area for a 32 cell common VLS.

Noticed how the 052D in the back is actually marked with a number, so it is likely to be 172. The one in the front could be 173 Changsha, but it probably won't be officially commissioned for another two months.

We had photos of 173/hull 2 visiting Hainan a few months back while 172 was also there so this is just captured sometime during that period.

And yeah, it kind of goes without saying that 173 in the picture isn't commissioned yet...

Scores of DDGs coming out scores of them

We are really seeing the fruits of the last few years coming together now

A 9th DDG has been spotted at JNCX and 2nd DDG at Dalian

The Chinese shipyards are doing the number on the Type 052D production line

In a space of a very short few years the Type 052D programme has reached double digits

Let's hope they keeping pushing on the DDG they are invaluable

Having said that it could slow down to make space for the big ticket items

2015 another very strong year for chinese naval shipyards

I had not seen either of these. Is there a link or can you provide a pic?

I have heard that the 1st Dalian Type 052D has started...but have not even seen a pic of that yet.

So, I am inclined to wait before I say that the 9th and 10th Type 052Ds have started.

I have no doubts that they will, mind you. I expect the very minimum we will see is twelve altogether...and expect it really to be more like eighteen or more.
