It looks like the second picture was taken not too long after the picture posted in at #616 over a month ago was taken. Some of the blue boxes are gone, but the aft and helipad appears to be the same, structurally. And some of the background yellow boxes/stands also seem to be in the same position.

So I wonder if these pics might be older ones that weren't released until now? I can't imagine they would be so slow working.

Does anyone know if the Dalian yard building the type 052d is the same one that refurbished the Liaoning?

Btw it looks like Type 052D programme is going double digits !

Possibly 12 possibly more ! Wow

The 7th unit is due for launch and 8th in the pipeline

All going well we may see possibly 3 launches this year and if DL gets one out that would mean 4 more in the water

It may well be the case that by end of 2015 we see 10 units in the water !!

Add in the 6 x Type 052C that's 16 x very modern DDG

Its great that China is building all these new DDG's. But untill the Type 055 comes out China will be outsized and outgunned by American, Japanese and South Korean platforms in the region.

Only if one is comparing one ship versus another.
In terms overall capability I'd say a mature fleet of 6 052C and 12 052D would be meaningfully more capable than the ROKN equivalent of 3 Sejongs or JMSDF 4 kongos, 2 atagos and their 4 akizukis, as well as whatever number of aegis ships that ROKN and JMSDF will add by 2020 when the first 12 052Ds should be in service

I bet Chinese admirals aren't as optomistic as you blitzo.

We don't have a tiny scrap of informations about Chinese capabilities but we know well what Korean and Japanese ships present from their training with US Navy at least. All of that talk is nonsense. If you add up numbers you'll get that those chinese numbers you proposed are enough to balance Japanese and Korean capabilities, let alone US or the next 2 DDG Japan is going to build in the few coming years.

I'm much less concerned about the PLAN hardware than about training and logistics, because those are the force multipliers that require more work to get right by comparison. Hardware-wise however, the PLAN equipment is good enough that if the USN were using them there wouldn't be any noticeable difference in their effectiveness.
