On this satellite image, at the bottom, you can see four docks and one of the Type 052D is sitting there.

But its not the other Type 055.

Also, no ship was present in my Google maps image, and could not account for the second 055 and 052D at that time of this image. Typically, the airline approach would be at the north, so anyone with a smartphone camera could catch the shipyard but those buildings would block the view of these docks.

The other 055 is being fitted out at a nearby drydock at Dagu, and the latest GE update from early this year shows the other 055 actually in the drydock itself being fitted out.

The second picture shows the pinned locations of the main drydock where they build their 055s, 052Ds, with the location of where the other 055 is being fitted out.

The dock at Dagu that is currently hosting an 055 is interesting, between February 2017 and February 2018 it received significant work that included the construction of a coffer dam, which suggests work on the dock gate. It appears to have acquired a pair of pits, one at either end of the dock, that are reminiscent of those in Dock No.2 at the BAE yard in Scotstoun which are used for the installation of propellers and sonars. The first ship it seems to have taken after this work is the 055, I think it was specially modified to function as a final fitting out and maintenance dock for destroyers.

Looking around a bit more, in the old yard, next the slipways, there is a dry dock that also has a sonar pit but its smaller than this one. The Dagu yard might be worth watching, the modernisation seems to have gone beyond the dry-dock currently hosting the 055, prior that (2016/17) they demolished a large shed an extended the rails for the travelling crane that covers the 360x80m building dock - at about the same time a new travelling crane was installed for the drydock with the 055 in it and the hard stand next that dock was enlarged, most recently a new building has appeared directly east of the 055 dock. Despite this, the yard doesn't seem to have hosted anything at all for over 2 years. In short, this small (by Chinese standards) yard has been expensively modernised but hasn't been used since except for the 055 it now has, could it be intended as a dedicated warship yard?

I remember this shipyard now. Older times I have seen submarines on the dock, not the smaller Ming types but larger types most likely Hans. I think this is where the Hans got refitted.

Currently the 055 doesn't seem to tn it though, so I wonder where it went. Note that the shipyard is also making offshore drilling platforms, which is the three things at the bottom, so its not all military.

Tam,

The image you posted is from February 2018, before the 055 arrived, it is visible in the latest footage as is an additional building that has been constructed directly east of the 055 dock. None of the historical GE imagery ever shows a submarine at this yard - it didn't even exist until 2009. The offshore rigs have been there since 2015/16.

Check the dates.
The latest picture we have from Google Earth is 1st of February this year, which is the image I posted in #3152.

The image you've posted here is from 13th of February in 2018 when the two 055s were not even launched..
