The progress on the third vessel is slower than usual but that might be due to Dalian focusing on getting the first one delivered before launching the third... or they might be diverting resources to the 055s. Who knows.

Yes it will be interesting to see what happens with 052D induction rate as 055s enter the picture also. Recall that the final 052C was launched two months before the first 052D, but commissioned eleven months later.

Pardon me,but I do remember something have seen from a big shrimp "pop3"(it seems this name has been familiar in this forum?at least several times).
It about 5 main warships' costs:056 ~¥680M($100M?)and 056A slightly above ¥700M;
054A ¥1.5B;
052D ~¥3B;
055 ~¥6B(~$900M?)
And,allow me to spend some time looking for the source,please.

I've posted on this before. I haven't come across any figures for the cost of 052Ds from pop3 but the figures he has given include:

Ships:
  1. Type 055 costs 6 billion yuan.
  2. Type 054 (not Type 054A) costs 1 billion yuan.
  3. Type 071 costs 1 billion yuan.
  4. Type 053H3 costs 550 million yuan.
  5. Type 056 costs 670 million yuan.
  6. Type 056A costs 710 million yuan.
  7. Type 903 costs 400 million yuan.
Equipment:
  1. Type 346 APARs cost 500 million yuan.
  2. H/PJ-12 CIWS costs 110 million yuan.
  3. Type 79 dual-barrel 100mm gun costs >10 million yuan.
From these figures, we should be able to infer that sensor suites and weapons systems constitute the majority of a vessel's costs, and vessels without complex sensors and weapons, like 071 and 903, are actually cheaper despite their hull's being larger.

Warships, build to military standard are clearly more expensive coz for to be less vulnerable to damages and have a better damage control
More compartmentalized
More cables for redundancy
Fire systems
Protection a little, kevlar around more importants parts
Radars, sensors especially for AEGIS like ships are expensive .

The hull itself, metal is not expensive in comparison with military systems.
Propulsion also expensive especialy for ships capable 25+ kn the kn is again more expensive after 30.

In this case to thi sprice - same size with 071 - i don' t think 903A is build to military standard.

These cost figures really don't mean a thing unless we know what they include. Do they include any prorated portion of the R&D that went into them? Or are they just the incremental price of one more ship? Do they include all the costs associated with their building and construction? Or are some of the equipment costs hidden in a different ledger?

  1. Does not include R&D. R&D costs are worked out between the navy and research institutes separately.
  2. Includes everything on the ship except munitions and consumables. VLS missile canisters, food & water, fuel, etc. are paid for separately.
