I don't get it, are you suggesting the USN would send a DDG-1000 class destroyer for a visit to China? But why would they park it at DL?

Or are you suggesting DL will be building a DDG-1000 like destroyer in ten years? But why would they, we know they're probably going to build 055 and 055 won't look anything like DDG-1000 (not even any future 055 variant)? Or is DDG-1000 just meant to be a stand-in for "generic advanced surface combatant of near future"?

And the answer is the bolded one. 055 has only artists impressions. I needed real photos taken from multiple angles. Plus, 055 will probably look conservative in 10 years time. So required something exotic looking. Hence the Zumwalt. The PLAN might be planning a Zumwalt type design at this very moment. So, yeah! I expect something excotic being build by the PLAN in 10-years time.

Yeah, that's what I thought... though I did also wonder if it was meant to be a jab to suggest that China would want to "copy" Zumwalt for whatever reason.
I do expect a new variant of 055 (like "055A") to be probably in production by then, but hopefully it won't look anything like Zumwalt, especially avoiding the tumblehome hull and twin main gun set up.

But lol, at this point even the USN will probably still be building Burke IIIs in ten years time as their main surface combatant, with no more Zumwalts in the pipeline after the third... so I wouldn't be surprised if 055/A is the most "radical" looking large surface combatant class under production by that time.

These are very beautiful, modern, and capable guided missile destroyers. The Type 052D.

Four commissioned. Seven more in the water (launched) and at various stages of outfitting and trials.

One more to be commissioned this year and two more planned to be commissioned next year, and then three in 2018.

Here's the ones already in service, all in the South Sea Fleet:

DDG-172 昆明 / Kunming

DDG-173 长沙 / Changsha

DDG-174 合肥 / Hefei

DDG-175 银川 / Yinchuan

China needs to upgrade its HQ9 system on the 052C/D. Its range is only 200km
I mean, Chinese radar and rocket tech is at least equal or better than Russia, therefore it should have a SAM system with range to 400km to 500km like the S400 or S500 Russian system.

What's holding it back?

What is the point?

You have to use:
1. a bigger and more expensive radar
2. a bigger VLS system with a smaller number of cells
3. a much larger SAM which costs way more than the incoming anti-ship missiles

Yet what targets will these missiles realistically be able to hit at 200km+?

400-500km SAMs make sense when you have high-flying targets (within the radar horizon) and are within 400km. The only targets that qualify are AWACS and surveillance aircraft which are forced to, because they are defending a land mass.
