DL D2 will almost definitely be launched this year, and JN D9 will be launched this year too.

DL D3 will in turn probably be launched mid next year, at the latest. From the launch of 052D number 1 in August 2012 to 052D number 12 sometime in 2017, that would have taken five years to launch twelve ships... not bad timing at all. Not as fast as the USN launched Burkes in the early 90s, when five Burkes were launched in 1994, but still pretty fast overall.

Here is the original un-cropped photo. It actually shows three 052Ds under construction in Dalian. I guess this means we have all 12 units identified. The question is, will there be more?

Nice photo.

But when you say "three" are you including DL D1, in the water (fitting out, not under construction), which was launched last year? I do not see an additional ship being constructed in the berth.

Because that still only shows DL D1, D2, and D3... combined with the 8 052Ds we've positively IDed from JN, that is still only 11 052Ds positively IDed, not 12.

Ah, you are right. I have to mind the difference between 'under construction' and 'fitting out'.

I think the number is going to go higher that 12 Type 052Ds...perhaps quite a bit higher.

They have hit their stride with that vessel and its design and are clearly happy with it...and building it at two yards.

Very powerful ship and a HUGE leap forward for the PLAN as strong, anti-air, multi-role destroyers for their carriers, their Amphibious ships, and their other flotillas and operational needs.

We have yet to positively identify (i.e.: have clear picture proof of) JN's 9th 052D... we know it's there, and we might have seen a few modules of it before, but we don't have clear proof of it just yet.

Nevertheless I do think it definitely is under construction and will probably be launched later this year.
