Type 726-4 is referred to as the decoy launcher, but when you have "-" followed by a number, it means its only a subsystem. Which means there is a Type 726-1, 726-2, 726-3. 726-1 to 3 are all ECM units. Collectively, all are part of the Type 726 EW system, which are centrally coordinated by a single back end.

What I would like to see after the 168/169 refit is a 32-cell VLS up front and 16-cell VLS at the back. What we will probably see is 16 and 16, or perhaps 32 and 0. This class could be a pretty decent ASW warship with its 16 potential slant launchers for the long range ASW missile and possibly up to 48 VLS cells, but I just know they will convert the ship into 8 YJ-81 or YJ-12 launchers and put in only 32 VLS cells.

I am thinking what is the cheapest and fastest way possible. They are not going to invest any more money on this than they have to.

16 VLS cells to replace the Shtil missile cache on front and another 16 cells to replace the cache in the rear.
8 YJ-12s.

One question I have is whether they will take the route with the DDG 136 Sov refit and stick an HQ-10 launcher where one of the Shtil launchers are, either in the front or in the back.

There is certainly enough space to rearrange things into the now semi-standard configuration of one HHQ-10 launcher in the front and one Type 1130 in the back.

Perhaps the one armed bandit in the back can be replaced by a HQ-10 to make room for expanded hanger, to accommodate 2 helicopters.

This ship will not likely be refitted with LRSAM to serve role of AAW DDG. At best HQ16 for area defense and HQ10 for CIWS only. With 2 helicopters it can provide better ASW & surveillance coverage.

052B has two Type 730 in the middle of each side. I'm not sure if they will change this if the MLU is in a strict Yuan diet, and I'm not sure if they will still put a 1130 in the front if they already have two 730s amidships. What I am thinking is either the possibility of fitting an HQ-10 launcher in the front ala the Sov refit, or an HQ-10 launcher in the back ala traditional PLAN placement for these launchers. Or they might go none at all like the 051B refit.

You would have to dig out the second Shtil cache in the hanger to make room for two helos, redo the door for two, and you would have to compensate with another VLS in the front to keep it 32. While it would produce a more ideal warship, in my opinion they will go cheap and fast for the upgrade, keep the two Shtil caches and fill them with A/JK-16 VLS, put an HQ-10 launcher either front or back. The helo remains single. They are not going to change any of the guns, just overhaul them. Replace all the Russian sourced fittings, Top Plate with Type 382, Bandstand with Type 366, Front Domes to their Chinese copies. There is a question if they want to go with the Type 364 replacement radar (see Type 075) or just keep the Type 364. Replace the 16 YJ-83s to 8 YJ-12s.
