Re: DDG 052C Thread

After doing some research about Kaijō Jieitai´s (海上自衛隊) newest DDG class (DDG-177 Atago, DDG-178 Ashigara) I have to admit that these mighty ships have left me deeply impressed. Both units will be operational in the fall of 08 (Atago (launched 24/08/2005, commissioned 03/07), Ashigara (launched 30/08/06, commissioned 03/08)).

Obviously PLAN´s new DDG´s (052D?) have to be ´pimped´ extensively if they should be able to mount a decent challenge their japanese counterparts. The spacious frame of this improved Kongō´s (10000 ts full load, 170 m, 21m) clearly indicates that they are full blown CG´s in reality. Although MSDF officials maintain that these ships will not employ Tomahawk cruise missiles this will be a matter of months to fix if MSDF gets order to do so.

Regarding the capabilities of the ´japanese´Aegis system some guys on japanese miltech forums who boasted to be in the know maintained that this system is able to track up to 2048 surface and air targets simultaneously. This impressive capability would set a new daring benchmark for PLAN engineers and developers indeed.

In Dec 1996, HiPer-D computing architecture supporting Baseline 7 Phase I version of AEGIS that will go into Improved Kongos demonstrated ability to simultaneously maintain 3000 tracks.

Also, all Kongos will be upgraded to have ABM capability, with first 4 Kongos soon to have AEGIS BMD Block 2004 level capability.

Beijing, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- The country's first warship with stealth technology served as the flagship in recent off-shore exercises of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, according to the PLA Navy sources.

It is the first time that the new-type warship has been made public, the PLA Daily reported on Thursday. It marks a breakthrough in the country's warship building sector, it said.

The stealth destroyer, which is independently designed and built by Chinese, is capable of accomplishing long-distance missions.

In late 2000, China began building the stealth destroyer. Experts involved in the project worked to make it as stealthy as possible, according to Navy sources.

Over 30 percent of the equipment on the destroyer is newly developed.

Module technology was also used on the new warship, making China the third country to use the technology in warship-building.

Before the new destroyer was handed over to the Navy, it made a 9,000-sea mile test voyage lasting more than 120 days. Over 300 problems were found and rectified, the sources said.
interesting to note that it actually travelled 9000 natuical miles in 120 days

Like the old Wendy's commercial, ask "where's the beef". If it ain't there, it ain't there.

There's enough eyes directed at PLAN shipyards. If and when the 052D pops up, we'd see the photos here.

Warships are always in need of maintaince. Hence, a vist to a shipyard. Perhaps it just needs some tweeking(adjustment) to certian systems..Probally propulsion..I have no idea what it could be just a guess on my part.....

Why does a replinishment ship need VLS?? Hell's bell's. Makes no sense to me..It's just taking up space that could be used for supplies. that is the ships job...Also this system must just cramp the crew.

I would love to see what the berthing area on a PLAN ship looks like.
