Maybe... but by ex all British classes in service have and are silencious the main problem with Chinese classes as Soviet/Russians* especialy with double hull have many holes to fill or empty very big ballast btw 2 hulls, Western classes have much more small ballasts in general one in front and one in rear.
* Ex : Akula submerged displacement superior to 1/3 % than surfaced displ, Typhoon the double ! A US SSN about 10 % of difference.
For hydrodynamic these very numerous holes are bad also the missiles compartment for SSBNs Delta, Xia, Jin .. which exceeds after reactors etc... but impossible know exactly fot that, only visible elts obviously.

These are elements for hydrodynamics but no Walrus don't have it and her look unique, Sauro more close but different
The Song have replaced mainly Ming/035 and Roméo/033, he have a double hull ? as Yuan normaly based on or very close of the Kilo.

Thank you sir for your reply and link. I remain confused though, I doubt that the device is purely hydrodynamic, although there will obviously be a connection from water flow interaction with the diving planes in certain aspects.
The Walrus exhaust is of course unique, as one might expect.
The Sauro exhaust, I agree does look more like the Song appendage.
If we look closely at the openings on the side of the Sauro exhaust, they do look similar to openings on the side of the Song's 'thing'. (enlarge and compare them). Also, in the photo in my original post, there appear to be holes or slots on the upper surface of the 'thing' which lead me to wonder why they are there.

It may be a device to increase the vertical stability of the sail underwater (i.e. to reduce chance of roll), given how tall the Song's sail is compared to most submarines.
A new Yuan normaly 039B on this new pic to Jiangnan ( Shangai ) the 4th in construction with 3 others to Wuan pic yet posted in 12/2016 these 3 are visible now on GE ( 01/2017 ) the 4th is not visible on GE.
According the chart i post again completed this new is the N° 346 the 17th Yuan, yet 13 in service ( 9 build to Wuhan + 4 Jiangnan ) with these news there are enough for replaced the last Ming, 3, to Lüshun's Flotilla

It is interesting to see the old sailor coming back to their old haunt I guess they can look back with pride even if type 91 is primitive But hey see how far Chinese navy has improved over the year it is nothing short of phenomenal

China's first nuclear submarine, which was decommissioned after more than 40 years of military service, went on display to the public on Sunday on the 68th anniversary of the establishment of the PLA (Chinese People's Liberation Army) Navy.
A launch ceremony was held in the Chinese Navy Museum in Qingdao, a port city in east China's Shandong province, where the nuclear-powered submarine is berthed.
Several veterans like its first torpedo officer Wang Jikun were invited to the ceremony and were happy to re-board the submarine and rekindle old memories.
"I feel very excited to come back to the place where I worked and studied," said Wang.
Other visitors were impressed by the submarine, which has been seen as a strong symbol of China's Navy.
"Being a Chinese citizen, I feel at ease because such as strong navy is protecting us," said Fan Baoyue, a visitor from central China's Henan Province,
The submarine, named the Long March No. 1, was launched in 1970. It was commissioned to the PLA Navy in 1974.
After undergoing a thorough denuclearization process, the submarine was towed to a wharf belonging to the Chinese Navy Museum in October 2016.
