Regardless of whether it's round, it will certainly be MUCH larger in size than a canister for YJ-18 given its quadruple air intakes. I suspect it will be fairly obviously if and when we finally do see a YJ-12 canister that it is in fact a YJ-12 canister.

I agree that a YJ-12 canister is likely to be much larger than a YJ-18 canister.

The problem is I don't think we yet know what a YJ-18 canister looks like and how large it is to be able to compare with how big a potential YJ-12 canister may be.

Whatever is on the 051B is a YJ-18 quad-canister launcher. There is simply no way in hell that a quadruple YJ-12 launcher could fit 4 in a row on the 051B (16 missiles total), and that's exactly the situation we have on that ship judging by the 3 empty racks lined up beside the YJ-18 launcher.

I think we may have slightly differing perceptions of how big a folded YJ-12 may be.

That said, I'm open to the idea that the 051Bs canisters may be for YJ-18, but at this stage I think there's a good chance they are for YJ-12s as well.

You did get a look at how wide the YJ-12 is with its quadruple air intakes, did you not? I'm not sure why you think the difference between a YJ-12's diameter and a YJ-18's diameter is any matter of subtlety. Even missiles like the YJ-62 already have a significantly larger canister than the YJ-83, and the size differences between those two are going to be far less than the difference between any other missile and a YJ-12. BTW, I seriously doubt even 16 YJ-62 canisters could fit into the space allotted for ASCMs on the 051B. By extension the prospect of 16 YJ-12s fitting into that space devolves into the realm of the absurd.

PLA Navy's Sovremenny class destroyer modernization renovation, VLS just before the bridge?

I think this depiction is wrong on at least a couple counts. First, I think there will probably not be two 1130s positioned beside the helipad like that since they will be hazardous to a landing helicopter's rotor blades. If there are CIWS mounts there they will likely be AK-630s or their PLAN equivalents.

Second, if there is a single universal VLS at the C position it would be turned sideways compared to what is on that drawing, like this:

On the other hand, if they're going to put a universal VLS on this ship, they could have spent just a little more money and made more efficient use of the available space, like this:

Or even like this:

Or they could even have made everything universal VLS:
