"Australia has several good reasons not to draw attention to the matter either"
what are they ?

Exports and investment. The current government is extremely pro-coal and CSG, and is also desperate to reverse a slide in property prices in major cities. China is by far the largest buyer of Australian minerals, and is also a huge investor in the Australian property market.

You are wrong on property prices, with interest rates at historic low, it is stoking a property price bubble on landed houses. As for apartments, there maybe a glut in mid price units but certainly not the upmarket ones where there is still a demand, not necessarily just from mainland Chinese only. As for coal exports to China, it has plateaued even before the issue with the SCS man made islands crop up. Don’t get me wrong China is still Australia’s largest export market but what I personally think is, the current government realise there is only so much you can push and megaphone diplomacy does not achieve much.

Trade is trade. Investments are investments. They should not be politicised by any country. Businesses must not blinded by political diatribes. Let’s get on with it and avoid unnecessary distractions. Economic progress should be a priority for all countries.

I don't agree with this nonsense Just like in private life you buy good from polite and clean store. You avoid any store that is rude, dealing in bad faith and poor service. Why should I buy good from them. There are other store that appreciate my money and go all the way to please me

So both China and the US are justified to politicise their trade talks? The world is watching who will be victorious eventually. So it appears political doctrine overshadows everything ...... The medium and small countries must succumb to Big Power Politics. It reminds us of WW II Nazism & Japanese Imperialism doctrines being forced down the throats of people of all countries. Unfortunate when you still have people/countries still thinking like this ..... National Domination!!

Spoken like someone who truly has zero inclining what the Nazis and Imperial Japanese did to make such ludicrously inaccurate and insulting comparisons. Unless China builds gas chambers or put whole cities to the sword for sports kindly stop with the BS nonsense melodrama.

Even just on the merits of the trade dispute in question you are being ridiculous.

China isn’t forcing any doctrine on anyone else nor is it launching smear campaigns on other countries to distract from its own internal political mistakes.

China is happy to trade with countries, and let them share in the fruits of China’s success. But if any national or political leader in certain countries want to score cheap political points by wilfully smearing China’s image and damage China’s interests, then China absolutely has the right to stop trading.

You speak of trade as if it is some god given right of the west to trade with whoever they want no matter if the other party consents to or not, but you are forgetting that trade is a two way street, both sides needs to agree to the trade or else it’s no longer trade is it? If you deliberately piss China off, China can and will withdraw its consent to trade with you, and you can go complain to the WTO once America lets them appoint judges again to be able to even hear cases.

It is only the want-to-have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too crowd who wants to poke China in the eye for their own amusement that are the ones who bitch and moan the loudest when they reap what they sow.

China never ever said countries need to conform to its world view and values to trade, only the west does that. Just don’t go out of your way to damage Chinese interests and you don’t have to worry about China not trading with you. Simples.

Read carefully, I did NOT mentioned China neither have I compared the Chinese to the Nazis or Japanese doctrines. I fully agree that no country whether Western or Chinese should force their political beliefs on any country or people. It would be disastrous for anyone or nation to force people to accept any foreign ideology whether Western, Chinese or Muslim extremists, and promote FEAR. Do you agree? If not no point of discussing this matter further.
