Well up and untill now we haven't seen any specific milititary use of any of the south sea islands. Wether in the Paracels or in the Spratly's. And I dare to say it would be against China's political interest to do so. And trust me, any nation with such a lengthy history on international relations and diplomacy is unlikely to do so.
Furthermore such small and remote islands are, from a military point of view, extremely vulnerable.
    ...
but who would dare to attack by military force a holliday tressort or a scientific outpost? what an international outcry to expect!

frigates (054a's) destroyers (be it 052 or 051), Zubr's and PLA marines are quite enough a deterrent as it is against any of the local bully's.

Yep, it is. Sansha No. 1 was touted to be a supply ship to be used for supporting the SCS features.

Looks like they were flying in some of the families of the military personnel on the island for a reunion.

Hehehe...they are learning the PR game.

1st, GREAT that some of the personnel got to have their families come out. That sells good will and high moral on the base and back home.

Second...hard to argue against those images no matter what side you are on.

over in the chinese boards many are betting that either Xi dada or Li Keqiang will personally go to this island in the chinese new year to visit the troops and workers. let's see if this really happens.

Since civil airliners are more sensitive to the condition of the airfield, one capable to support an Airbus is definately capable to support H/Y/KJ series, not mention tactical aircrafts.

A soft and skillful, but solid demonstration of might.
