PLAN SCS Bases/Islands/Vessels (Not a Strategy Page)

Colonel
I first apologize for continuing the same topic that have led to some bad feelings. However, I would like to bring up some factual points about these man-made islands. Although it is debatable as to whether these islands can be considered sovereignty, one thing that cannot be denied is that there are and will always be properties and personnel that belong to China. I don't think it is acceptable to anyone to attack a nation's property / personnel, even if it is on open ocean and in international water. So attacking bunkers or any man-made structures that would inevitably lead to casualties and lose of life will not be acceptable to any nation, no matter where it happens. As such, no one will do it as Jeff correctly pointed out.

Since they are not giants ships of PLAN, your hypothetical question is irrelevant.

How about a question based in facts of known events?
If the PLAN shot another nation's sailors with 37mm naval guns, would that count as an attack?

If a military is intentionally sent in to interfere with another military, all possible outcomes should have been anticipated. I will leave it at that.

Since China has alienated all of their non-Western neighbours in this matter - Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia - it seems that what others think really does matter a great deal.

Just because China states something, and you agree, does not make it so.

China is only 19% of the planet. They are outnumbered greater than 4:1 on this matter, and since they appear to be alienating *literally* every nation that borders the SCS, what others think is quite relevant.

Just because you disagreed does NOT make it so either. What belongs to China stays with China whether you like it or not.

There's much rhetoric over the Chinese occupied islands to the exclusion of the fact that China is not the only one to have occupied, reclaimed and put in forts and airstrips. That's why it's called "disputed region". Referring to nfgc's comment, Indonesia is not a claimant to the islands. They have their own problems with Malaysia.

Rhetoric aside, we should be open to the fact that other nations, besides China, had a head start in the area.
Hence,

[On Saturday, at the International Institute for Strategic Studies Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter acknowledged, “It’s true that almost all the nations that claim parts of the South China Sea have developed outposts over the years . . . of differing scope and degree.”]

Positioning China as the victim is so illogical as to be discarded on its face.

The pro-China bias and propaganda on this board is quite transparent....

.... the Jinan plants working the PRC line who have thousands of posts here.
nfgc, you are new here.

I highly recommend that you read SD Rules of Behavior. When you signed up, you agreed to abide by them. They are posted a sticky thread on every forum.

Your above post does not do so.

You are making reactionary accusations against a board that has people from all over the world, including China. This is a moderated board and we enforce the rules against all sides in any issue.

So, I highly recommend that you read the rules and abide by them and avoid making personal bias accusations about things you cannot possibly know. The same holds true for the other side and as you shall see, we enforce it on both sides.

SD is about Military Issues and Technology. We are open to discussion of capabilities, deployments, design, specifications, news, and thoughts on the various military equipment and issues.

we do have a forum called the "Member Club Room," where some non military/defense issues are discussed...but the rules hold there as well.

We are not open to political/ideological back and forth or discussions. Since we have people from all sides here...that path leads to endless argument, nationalism, fan-boyism, high emotion, and ultimately to warnings and suspensions.

So do not go there. If you do, you will first be warned...then suspended if it continues...and ultimately banned if it does not stop. That's the progression.

DO NOT RESPPOND TO THIS MODERATION.

(If you take issue with moderation, PM the moderator or another moderator according to rules, do not argue on the forum).
