Jeff, I don't want to belabour this point too much -- personally I do not have too strong an opinion regarding whether he was deliberately being inflammatory or not -- but the fact that a few members did criticize the wording of his question clearly meant his question could be, and was, interpreted in a certain way.
The speaker often has no control as to how listeners interpret their words, and the interpretation of those words is not a "choice," but rather a product of their own worldview developed throughout their life and their interactions with the environment.

Blackstone may not have meant to ask his question in a way which would have elicited a response... which is justified and fine. But other members who interpreted his words differently and called him out on it were also justified in their interpretation and their subsequent criticism... is all I'm saying.

I hear you, Blitzo. On the other hand, we already have way too much PC going around, and it gets tiresome after a fashion. The standard I'd prefer to follow is based on how the majority of reasonable SDF posters view the messages; if most aren't offended, then my admittedly black heart tells me to ignore the loud minority. But if most reasonable posters feel something is out of line, then I'll review my position and see if I'm off base or they are. And how do I know only a few are offended? Answer is, are they the usual ones? That seems proper to me.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion...and their own interpretation.

No problem there.

But sometimes people are far too sensitive...and sometimes the interpretation is simply wrong...and that cuts both ways.

As long as it does not develop into an argument or violate rules for SD...I have no desire or intention to moderate it either way.

As it is, I simply shared my own opinion that since it is a US sponsored and planned exercise, having the US be the deciding authority on what may or may not come to those exercises is not in and of itself anything remotely offensive.

Blackstone has responded and it seems like the air should be cleared.

I for one am looking forward to another PLAN inclusion and though I think it probably will not happen...I would love to see the Chinese carrier group attend. Particularly if they then went on to the US west coast for a visit. Hehehe...in which case I would make a trip down to San Diego or wherever to see it.

Forward and onward.

Kind of bizarre seeing a warship of this size transiting such an inland looking canal.
Its the Kiel canal connecting the North Sea with the Baltic to enable ships to avoid sailing around Denmark. It was very important to the Imperial German Navy so more than a century ago it was enlarged to allow the passage of Dreadnought type battle ships.
