PLAN LHD/LPH/LHA discussion

    A couple of days ago I went to see the LHD HMAS Adelaide in the city of the same name. It may be the largest ship ever operated by the Royal Australian Navy, but it is also ugly and resembles nothing so much as a brick floating on the water. Of course, most LHDs look like this. I was reminded of the line from Douglas Adams' 'The Long Dark Tea-Time of The Soul' about the ugliness of airports:

    This could easily be repurposed to be about LHDs.

    All of which is a roundabout way of saying that I hope China's forthcoming design is at least aesthetically … well, attractive might be too much to hope for, but at least tolerable. China is building some of the best-looking ships in the world right now, so there is hope.

    Mistral class looks worse

    It really is a cardboard box floating in the water

    Also looks too tall, very ugly design by the French

    yes, and of course that has something to do with PLAN...
