China's Sixth Type 903A Fleet Replenishment Oiler Commissioned Into PLAN East Sea Fleet

A commissioning, naming and flag-presenting ceremony of the new Gaoyouhu fleet replenishment oiler (hull number 966) of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy) was held solemnly at the Zhoushan naval base in east China’s Zhejiang province. The event means that the vessel is officially commissioned in the PLAN.

Gaoyouhu is the sixth Type 903A fleet replenishment oiler (Qiandaohu class) of the PLAN and the third one for the PLAN East Sea Fleet.

the 886 with a type 052c destroyer and a type 054a frigate in the background in Stockholm, Sweden in october of last year. it is about as far from china you can come plan has become a true blue water navy, impressive! and really good looking and imprressive ships.

He makes a compelling case that they Type 901 is VERY close to the Supply Class AOR for the US Navy which was specifically set up to provide replenishment to Carrier strike Groups.

Doesn't seem like the 901 has CIWS.

Well, it was just launched and the outfitting is still to occur.

I am willing to bet that they will have CIWS, perhaps both missiles and guns. I am thinking one or two FL-3000N launchers and one or two Type 1030 guns. I'd put two of each on these vessels.

These are critical vessels and they should have good self defense capabilities.

Before to be transferred to MSC Supply class get 2 Phalanx, a Sea Sparrow and 2 x 25 mm.

Sacramento had also 2 Phalanx, a Sea Sparrow a little more big 5300t max vs 49000 t mainly long 242 m vs 230m caried 25000 t of Log vs 25000 t Supply mainly more fuel very capable and precious ships.

The more heavily armed repl. ships is the Russian Berezina with

A little OT but can' t resist

China's replenishment fleet has taken massive strides over the last few years

Type 901 with 001A will be a awesome combination, so far we have seen Type 903 with Type 071 LPD that looks like some serious warship tonnage probably 40,000 + tons

Type 901 and 001A will be around 3 times that tonnage, good international statement or sometimes called gun boat diplomacy

I think one of the biggest reasons for comparing 901 class with Supply class (rather than say, the Sacramento class) is the smoke stack arrangement of the 901 class, along with the rumours of its propulsion both suggesting COGAG with four QC-280s, which would be similar to the Supply class' COGAG with four LM2500s... whereas the Sacramento class was powered by steam turbines.
